Coming out of a long committed relationship, some days it's hard to think about the positive. It's almost as if you're not quite sure what to do with yourself. You lost a best friend, the first person you texted when you had great news, the person you made all of your plans with. It's too easy to think about the past and how great things used to be, but there's definitely positives to the situation.

1. You have more time to focus on yourself and friendships.

I never saw myself as someone who'd neglect my friendships when I got into a relationship, but sometimes you're so head-over-heels, it happens without you realizing. This is the perfect time to reconnect with your old friends or build relationships with new people.

2. You can freely self-explore.

Growing with someone is an incredibly difficult thing and that's why young relationships are so rare to last. We're constantly evolving-especially during our young adult lives. This new single life is an opportunity to try things that maybe your past partner didn't 'approve' of, or things that you've just always been curious about.

3. You aren't tied down.

Looking into my future past college, I'd like to move away from home and start a life somewhere new. Its definitely easier to do so without having another person to think about. This is a selfish time. You are no longer doing things as a team, but doing things for you and you only.

4. You can be selfish.

You are doing things for you now. You don't have to take another person into consideration. Your life is purely up to you. Your time is yours. Your happiness is yours. Take care of yourself and focus on what you want and your goals.

5. You can look forward to whats to come.

It might not be clear now, but there is a reason this relationship didn't work out. Something better is waiting for you. While now might not be the time to search for it, it is definitely something to remind yourself on those days when your missing how things were in the beginning. You will have that again and this time it will be 100x better.

6. You can (finally) innocently flirt with that boy or girl in class.

Let's be honest, flirting is fun and it might actually help you feel a little bit better about your situation. I'm sure theres at least one person you've deniably had your eye on. There is no worry in staying true to another person, just make sure you're always staying true to yourself.

7. You have to get up and do something.

You no longer have the option of laying around and always hanging out with your significant other (which is the hardest part) But, it's also great. You are now forced to be adventurous make moves in your life. You're going to be constantly stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new. You'll be thankful for this later.

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
