7 Reasons Why Colored Hair Is Awesome

While there are negative setbacks to colorful hair, I'd like to think there are plenty of advantages.

Blue, pink, purple, or red. I'm not the only one who is enamored with the thought of having an unusual hair color. Celebrities and popular culture have brought unnaturally colored hair to the limelight. Yet, having bright color in your hair is still stigmatized as being a sign of rebellion. Even though it's gaining traction among the younger generation, most people don't understand the hype. "It will just damage your natural hair," is often the reasoning behind why most refuse to dye their hair. So, what are the advantages of having colored hair?

1. Children are amazed by your hair.

Maybe not always in a good way, but it is admirable to have a child think you're the coolest thing to walk into Target. One of the joys in life is giving a child a sense of wonderment and curiosity, whether they think you're a fairy princess or a popular anime character. I had a two-year-old comment on my purple hair in Spanish. I don't know one word in Spanish, so I just smiled and nodded to his mother.

2. You actually forget your hair is different.

I had sparsely added random streaks of color to my hair throughout my life. When I made the decision to color my hair entirely a different color, I thought it would be a big change and that it would follow me for the rest of my life. Instead, the change from a natural brunette to lavender hair wasn't very drastic. My hair color changed nothing about who I was. As far as I knew, I still saw myself as myself, despite my change in physical appearance.

3. You scare old people.

Well, not all the time but it's still funny to see certain types of people afraid of you based on how you look. You can be dressed in professional attire, yet still get judgmental stares. At first, having people judge you can be a little disconcerting, but you get used to it and laugh off their ignorance.

4. No effort.

After hours of applying the color and letting it set, you better be blessed with godlike hair! You'll wake up every morning stylish without changing out of your pajamas. Of course, you'll still have to brush your hair, but it's nice knowing that you're practically selfie-ready the second you wake up. OK, maybe not, but it's nice thinking that sometimes.

5. It actually matches different styles.

When many think about colored hair, they only give credit to kids who shop at Hot Topic. That's not the case when it comes to everyone. What makes unnaturally colored hair so awesome is that anyone can pull it off. Regardless of ethnicity, sex or age, colored hair adds depth to personality. A few years ago, the trend of dip-dying became popular among the more preppy teenagers. So, colored hair is definitely not just for Tumblr girls.

6. Every hairstyle is five times cooler.

It's one thing wearing a ponytail with normal-colored hair, but there's something special when your hair isn't as plain. Putting your hair in a bun can make you look classy, but with colored hair, it puts you on a whole other level.

7. It's OK to wash your hair less.

It's not only OK to wash your hair less, but it's recommended that you do. Not only does less shampoo protect your hair's natural balance, it also protects that beautiful color from fading. Just continue to bathe, please.

What's your favorite aspect of having colored hair?

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
