With college football going into week five, and the NFL going into it's third, let's take a moment to sort of step back and realize who the real winner is.
1. The Mascots
Every team has one, what's a team without the mascot? Pretty sure they're nothing, So let's take a moment, and just appreciate the ones that are dogs. Because those dogs were purposefully born to be that teams' mascot. For example UGA, Smoky, and Yale's Handsome Dan.
2. Students
Two words student. section. It is not just a group of semi-drunk college kids, it's a group of people who take PRIDE in that school, win or lose. The antics, the chants, and more importantly the really amazing gifs we get out of them.
3. The band
Ohio State University has the "The Best Damn Band in the Land", University of Tennessee has "The Pride of The South Land", Alabama has "The Million Dollar Band", the list could go on, the bottom line does any NFL team have a band to get you hype during half time? Or to play "The Victors," or "Rocky Top," after each touchdown? No? Thought not.
5. The Traditions
For example,Purdue they have the Word's Largest Drum, the University of Tennessee runs through the T, Alabama has "Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer", and Texas A&M's 12th Man. Other than with the Greenbay Packers, you don't see any tradition in the NFL.
6. The Fans
With any sport comes fans, yes. But with college football, the level of committed these people are is beyond the word fan. For example with pro sports, your favorite player gets traded, you automatically get rid of their old jersey, and buy their newest, no big deal. Is that the same with college football? Nope, if the coach leaves, he's automatically a traitor. A player transfers schools, not that big of a deal right? Nope, he automatically becomes dead to them. I'm not saying they're dedication is wrong, I'm just saying hell hath no fury like a college football fan scorned.
7. The Experience
At the end of a home game the home team goes over to their band, and sings their school's anthem, and that alone, is an amazing thing to witness. It's something electric, that makes everyone come together, it's probably the best part of college football. That and the views a stadium can give you.
