7 Reasons Your Christian Friends Are The Reason You're Surviving College

College is tough. It's piles of stress and work and tears and pain. But, with some good friends, it can be bearable. And, with some unbelievable friends, friends who love God, it can be survivable. Here are reasons why your college friends are the real MVP's.

1. They help you with your work.

Having a friend, or friends, who are in a lot of your classes is a literal God-send. You help each other with your homework and remind each other when you have an online quiz due that one of you probably forgot about. They won't roast you when you fail an assignment, because they have totally been there too. Plus, it gives you someone to make sassy comments to during class.

2. They walk across campus for you at 1 in the morning. In the snow.

On that night you got your heart broken, your friend walked across campus when you called her and sat, talked, cried, and threw pillows with you. Despite the snow and the fact that both of you had to be awake at some ridiculously early hour. And she won't hesitate to do it again. And you won't hesitate to be there if she needs you.

3. They're always down for crazy adventures.

Want to walk to the store at 8 pm in four feet of snow to get ice cream? Go for it. Want to make a pizza at 10 pm? Why not? Drink two cups of chai half an hour before you were going to go to bed? Yep. Play mafia until one in the morning. Check. Having random movie nights and roommate dates with some of your friends are the best times you'll have in college. Oh, and, they will make you go outside and play in the five feet of snow.

4. They call you on your crap.

Seriously, if you are being stupid or doing something wrong, they tell you. And you don't get as mad or offended as you would if your acquaintance from Biology class did, because they mean it out of all love and genuine concern for you. You are genuine, open, and honest with each other.

5. They pray with you and study the Bible with you.

You start a Bible study with them. You sit and discuss life in a deep, meaningful way. You offer each other advice and comfort. And, you pray for each other--both when you're together and when you're apart. They dry your tears and make you laugh. They share their profound encounters with God and His Holy Spirit, and you share your faith and struggles too. You're able to pursue Christ together and deepen your relationship with Him and each other.

6. They are genuinely concerned for you, and genuinely care about you.

If you're acting strange, even if you hope they don't notice and are assuring yourself and them you're fine, they notice. They talk to you and give you suggestions about how to deal. They're concerned when you're not okay, and they actually seriously care about you, not just pretend to.

7. They keep you going.

In all the ways they can, they'll give you energy. They push you in your relationship with Christ and with others. They keep you motivated when school seems so overwhelming all you want to do is drop out. They text you every day of "hell week," reminding you how much you love your major, and learning, and how much you want this education. They encourage, support, and love you.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
