7 Reasons Why Bid Day Is The Best Day Of The Year

For sorority girls, bid day is like your birthday, a trip to Disneyland, and Christmas combined into one. If you don't believe it, here are seven reasons why us sorority girls peak during bid day every year.

1. You get to dress up.

You love costumes and themed parties, so bid day is an excuse to pull out those tutus, that face paint, and or any other item you have in the costume box that hasn't gotten any use this summer. That snapback you got over spring break with your letters airbrushed onto it has never been more relevant.

2. You get to wear matching shirts, which were free.

Not only do you all look super adorable in your matching themed tops and outfits, but you get them for free! Sorority girls have a serious appreciation for matching with their sisters whenever possible.

3. You get to wear flower crowns, hair bows, and snapbacks.

There is no more appropriate day to wear a flower crown than bid day, except maybe during Coachella. Pin that half bun up with a hair bow and you're ready to go. Just don't forget the bedazzles and glitter for your face!

4. There's a DJ, which means there's a dance party.

There's no boys at Bid Day, so bring on the stupid dance moves, because nobody is there to judge you, and you love a good dance party. The harder you're dancing and the more you're sweating, the better a time you're clearly having.

5. You get to see your hard work pay off and admire the awesome new member class you pulled during recruitment.

There is no more validating moment than seeing the ecstatic facial expressions on the new PC's beautiful faces when they show up for bid day. And dang, don't they look good in those bid day shirts! Make sure to give your BFFs a well deserved high five, because YOU ladies are the reason these girls are here and ready for the best four years of their lives.

6. Pictures on pictures on pictures.

You get to take at least 100 pictures, and sometimes, there's even a photo booth. There are few things sorority girls love more than pictures. You might even be in a picture with your future little without realizing it (you'll appreciate it when you have an awesome #tbt for later).

7. It signifies the end of recruitment.

Bid day is essentially the prize you get for working your butts off during work week and recruitment in order to get the most killer new pledge class (and make sure that rush crush of yours becomes your future little). At the end of it all, you get to celebrate, and dance the day away with all of your amazing friends and the new girls.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
