7 Reasons Why I Absolutely Adore Cats

There's not a whole show about them for nothing!

7 Reasons Why I Absolutely Adore Cats
Lindsay Paris

If you know me really well, you know that I have a strange obsession with cats. I follow at least 4 different cat accounts on Instagram and get updates whenever they post a new video or photo. Even though I have a boyfriend (and his sister, my best friend) with six dogs--all of whom are adorable and amazing--I am and always will be a cat person. I think this all started when I first got my own cat. My dad didn't want a pet and my mom is allergic to animals with fur, so we decided on a cat who is hypoallergenic--a Siberian named Phoebe. I absolutely adore her and I always ask my family how she's doing because I miss her.

1. Cats are really low maintenance.

Besides cleaning their litter, it isn't that difficult to take care of a cat. Cats really do whatever they need to do on their own--they know where to use the bathroom, they clean themselves, they eat when you give them food and don't try to grab your own food from you. My cat likes to eat my food if I give her a piece of turkey, and she looks up at me to give it to her. It's the cutest thing.

2. They have the cutest little faces!

Cats and dogs are both very cute, but I find that cats as a whole tend to have cuter faces. There are so many different looks for a dog, but as far as cats go, they all have similar kinds of faces with cute whiskers and little noses and mouths. I think they all look adorable (besides hairless cats, they kind of freak me out) whereas I've seen some nasty looking dogs before on the street.

3. They're really quiet.

Going hand in hand with the point of being low maintenance, cats are also not as loud and jumpy as dogs are. They tend to meow quite a bit, but it isn't really obnoxious to the point that incessant barking might be. However, this means that cats are much sneakier than dogs, and so you might accidentally trip over a feline. They will look at you with disdain.

4. They're almost always super fluffy.

I'm a huge fan of fluff and softness, and cats are almost always the cuddliest creatures I know of. Except for the aforementioned sphynx (aka hairless) cats. Those are not cuddly. But the other breeds (mine especially) tend to be piles of fur that is reminiscent of clouds. And I love that.

5. I truly believe I was a cat in a former life.

I know a lot of people don't believe in the idea of being something different in a former life, but I really think that I was a cat. I take care of myself, I'm quiet, I like to cuddle in my bed, and I still like being around people just chilling. I identify with felines more so than any other animal out there.

6. They make the cutest sounds.

Purring and meowing are amongst two of my very favorite sounds out there (other sounds include tap shoes and Jeremy Jordan's voice). I love it when my cat purrs because it means that she's happy, and I oftentimes mimic her meow and confuse my entire family. It's a lot of fun.

7. They are always there for you when you need a distraction.

In high school, I would often need to take a break from my work because I was stressed, and so looking for my cat and just seeing her face made me smile. I still look at pictures of her while I'm away at college, and I wish that I could have a pet in my room because I really benefit from seeing that little furball. Plus, they just curl up next to you and let them pet you and what's better than that?!

10 Truths About Being In A Sorority

(For Girls Who Are Interested In Greek Life)

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
