As a former high school athlete and someone who loves to exercise and stay in shape, finding great places to workout in my college town was very important to me when choosing a university. Boston, fortunately, is full of fitness centers that I know I can access in addition to my university's gym. I really enjoy doing a wide variety of exercises and classes so that my workout routine never bores me. It is so important to participate in activities that you love and that help you to better yourself and by finding the best fitness center for you it is easy to do just that! Here are some of my favorite places to workout in Boston!
1. Charles River Esplanade
The scenic Charles River Esplanade is a beautiful place for your morning run or outdoor yoga. During the nice weather, there are often free fitness classes near the river that many people love to attend! The classes are sometimes sponsored by local fitness centers and offer people a taste of what is offered at their centers. The classes are a great activity to do with friends and an even better excuse to get outside in the beautiful city of Boston.
2. Barre and Soul
Barre and Soul offers a wide range of yoga, barre and cardio classes that are sure to give you a challenging workout! With locations in the Boston University area and in Harvard Square, this trendy studio is accessible to anyone looking for group fitness classes. Barre and Soul's teachers are professionally trained in yoga and the Lotte Berk Method of Barre, so you are sure to get a great workout. The studios offer classes for all levels, so be sure to give them a try and find your new favorite class!
3. Pure Barre
Pure Barre is a chain of studios offering its challenging barre classes at many locations. The Boston studio is located on Newbury Street and is a great place to go on a nice day and pair with an afternoon of shopping. The studio's class packs can be redeemed at most locations and offer a special price for new members! Pure Barre is a great place to push yourself and try a different type of exercise.
4. SoulCycle
If you love cycling and a challenge, SoulCycle is the place for you! This cycling studio offers classes that will not only get your heart pumping, but your muscles working. The music and lights in the studios make the experience extremely enjoyable and motivate you to push yourself. Their locations in Back Bay, Beacon Hill and the Seaport District of Boston allow all exercise enthusiasts to access their studios! Cycling has become a very popular workout and SoulCycle makes their classes challenging and fun for all participants.
5. Reebok CrossFit Back Bay
CrossFit is an intense workout that uses weights, interval training, plyometrics and much more. Reebok CrossFit Back Bay has locations in the Back Bay and South End areas and offers small group training with over 200 classes per week. CrossFit methodology is used by many gyms across the country and has become a very popular workout in the past few years. It not only works on endurance, but also on strength and body conditioning. CrossFit is a definite way to push your body to the limit and challenge yourself and others.
6. BURN Fitness Studio
BURN Fitness Studio offers both one-on-one training and group fitness for all levels and interests. The studio has locations in the Back Bay and South End areas and is easily accessible by public transportation. They offer classes from kickboxing to TRX and are sure to give you a motivational and personalized experience. Finding a class that interests you is easy at this studio!
7. The Z Spot
The Z Spot is located in the Fenway area of Boston and has become a popular studio for many fitness enthusiasts. The Z Spot focuses on Zumba fitness and offer classes at a wide range of times so that it is accessible for everyone! The Z Spot also hosts many events outside in places such as the Boston Common or the Public Garden! Taking the classes will definitely pose a challenge and a fun experience for you and your friends!
