All hockey fans can attest to the fact that there are pros
and cons that stem from rooting for their respective teams. However, the fan
base of the Chicago Blackhawks is lucky enough to be granted more positives
than negatives. This team gives us so much to appreciate as hockey fanatics. Win
or lose, I am always proud to be a Hawks fan, and here are the reasons why.
1. The National Anthem
Sure, the Star-Spangled Banner is played at every sporting
event, but when the Blackhawks are playing at home at United Center, it’s more of a recital. Jim Corneilson grabs the microphone and melodically belts out the patriotic lyrics. The whole crowd gets into it, and the walls and floor begin to vibrate with enough power to send a pregnant woman into labor. As a fan, it is one of the most intense and awe-striking experiences one could encounter.
2. Players Who Want To Be Here
After spending the last five seasons with the Florida
Panthers, defenseman Brian Campbell was itching to return to the Blackhawks. While deals were being negotiated, he made it clear that he would willingly take a cut in pay to be back in Chicago, a city that he loves. Once a hawk, always a hawk.
In six seasons, the Blackhawks claimed three Stanley Cup Final titles. The winning years were 2010, 2013 and most recently 2015. We Hawks supporters definitely dig wins, and they make us proud. Hopefully they will be able to reel in yet another win in the 2016-2017 season
4. Joel Quenneville
Ah, Coach Q. Without him, the Blackhawks would not have transformed into the winning team they are today. His reign began in 2008, and by 2010, they won the Stanley Cup, a huge improvement considering their last win was in 1961. In his accomplished coaching career, he holds nearly 800 wins, quite the feat. Plus, he has a great mustache
5. 17 Seconds
One of the biggest perks of being a Blackhawks fan is having the privilege of gloating about 17 seconds. What exactly does this mean? In the 2013 Stanley Cup Final, the Blackhawks were matched up with the Boston Bruins. In the final moments of the sixth game in the series, the Hawks were down, 2-1. Within 17 seconds, they scored two
goals to win the game and the series. Talk about champs.
6. The Song
I didn't even have to name the song for Hawks fans to understand the one. Who doesn’t love the sound of “Chelsea Dagger” when the Blackhawks score a goal? Nothing pumps up the fans like the lyrics, and without a doubt they will sing and dance along.
7. Fellow Fans
Every Blackhawks fan takes solace in knowing that fellow enthusiasts are just as wild as they are. From head to toe apparel to screaming at the television, Hawks fans everywhere are united by the jerseys on our backs. Let's go Hawks!
