Along with movies, 2017 seems like it will be the year for books. With so many new releases coming out this year, it's hard to decide which ones I'm most excited about. My actual list of anticipated books is about a mile long so to keep it short, here are seven of my most anticipated books of 2017.


Her Every Fear, Peter Swanson

Kate Priddy apartment swaps with her cousin Corbin after she is attacked by her ex-boyfriend. Shortly after leaving London and arriving in Boston, Corbin's neighbor Audrey is murdered. After being questioned by the police and meeting people with surprising information about her cousin, Kate isn't sure who to trust but one thing is for sure, she's determined to find out what really happened. Her Every Fear hits shelves on January 10th.


Carve the Mark, Veronica Roth

Little has been released about Divergent author Veronica Roth's new novel. What we know so far is that the story focuses on a planet in another galaxy where everyone develops a currentgift, a unique power of some kind. The protagonists Akos and Cyra (who each have a currentgift) have grown up in extremely different environments, their countries and families do not get along. When Akos and his brother are captured by the enemy, Akos will do whatever it takes to ensure his brother survives. Akos and Cyra are forced to decide whether they will help each other survive or whether they will destroy one another. Find out more when Carve the Mark comes to bookstores on January 17th.


Caraval, Stephanie Garber

Once a year a week-long performance where the audience participates called Caraval comes to Trisda. Scarlett who has never left Trisda is determined to take her sister Tella away from their abusive father via Caraval. However, when the show finally arrives, Tella is kidnapped by Legend, the show's organizer. Scarlett is forced to participate and find her sister before she disappears forever. Experience the magic and the mystery on January 31st.


House of Names, Colm Toibin

Set in ancient Greece, House of Names retells the story of Clytemnestra and her children. On the day of their daughter's wedding, Clytemnestra's husband Agamemnon orders her sacrifice. Agamemnon then leads his army into battle and is victorious. Three years later, he returns. Clytemnestra is seeks revenge in the form of her husband's death. Their daughter Electra silently observes her family's actions while their son Orestes is sent into exile. Electra and Orestes must right the wrongs of their family even if it means committing a terrible act themselves. This ancient story of betrayal hits shelves on May 9th.


4321, Paul Auster

If you thought two timelines were confusing, try four timelines. On Marc 3, 1947, Rose and Stanley Ferguson's one and only child, Archibald Isaac Ferguson is born. At this point his life is divided into four different paths. Ferguson 1, 2, 3, and 4 live four extremely different yet parallel lives. All four fall for Amy Schneiderman but each relationship is so different. Various aspects of the different lives vary for the four boys who are the same boy. Auster's novel about commonality and possibility will be released on January 31st.


Into the Water, Paula Hawkins

From the author who brought you The Girl on the Train, comes the next psychological suspense novel. After both a teenage girl and a single mother's bodies are found at the bottom of a river, an investigation ensues bring up a lots of history and secrets thought to be long buried. A fifteen-year-old girl who is parentless and friendless is thrust into the care of her mother's sister. Hawkin's novel is full of suspense and deception and focuses on how the past can devastate the present. Into the Water will be published on May 2nd.

Final Girls, Riley Sager

Being the sole survivor of a massacre, Quincy Carpenter became a member of the Final Girls, a group of women who are also survivors of brutal attacks. It's been 10 years since the massacre and Quincy is doing great - until the first final girl is killed. Shortly after, the second final girl shows up on Quincy's doorstep intent on making her relive the past. Quincy must race against time to figure out what happened to the first final girl and what really happened all those years ago. Find out the fate of the final girls on July 11th.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated.
