Often times the best movies aren't the ones that are trending in Netflix's "top 10" banner, but are hiding in the deep recesses of the streaming service's limitless library. Unfortunately, because of the complicated algorithm, many of them are taken off before their true potential is even recognized. Therefore, I have compiled a list of some of my favorite movies that are all leaving Netflix sometime in the next few weeks, in order of disappearance.
1. "Ginger & Rosa"
A powerful coming-of-age drama about two lifelong friends who are torn apart when one gets romantically involved with the other's father. With Elle Fanning's talent and beautiful cinematography, I found this movie to be incredibly compelling and extremely well done. Leaving July 11.
2. "Ant-Man and the Wasp"
Although this is one of the many movies in the Marvel cinematic universe, one can easily enjoy the action-packed intrigue without having seen every single preceding film. Paul Rudd is hilarious, but there is also a chilling thread to the storyline that will leave you in constant anticipation. Leaving July 28.
3. "The Pursuit of Happyness"
This drama may tug at your heartstrings more times than you would prefer in 1 hour and 57 minutes, but it is definitely worth it. I was fully engrossed the entire time and have never wanted a character to succeed more in my life. Leaving July 31.
4. "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"
Of course I love "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (which is also coming off Netflix), but this movie falls high on my list of all-time favorites, and I truly believe it is a classic that everyone needs to see. Once you look past the wire harnesses and comically fake-looking "candy", you will truly appreciate the amazing talent of Gene Wilder and excellent musical score. Leaving July 31.
5. The "Back to the Future" Trilogy
This sci-fi classic has everything: 80s nostalgia, time travel, and comedic relief. The writers' grasp on the space-time continuum was truly ahead of its time. Pun intended. Leaves July 31.
6. "The Edge of Seventeen"
In this dramedy, Hailee Steinfeld shines as a relatably awkward teenager whose life spirals when her best friend starts dating her brother. Cue the hilarity. Leaving July 31.
7. "Hitch"
Yes, another Will Smith movie, but this time he stars alongside Kevin James in a heartfelt and hilarious romantic comedy that is certainly better than the average. Leaving July 31.
