In 1969, six men known as Monty Python created a sketch show called "Monty Python's Flying Circus." While many of you reading may not have seen the show or even heard of Monty Python, they continue to be a source of entertainment for many. If you ever find yourself stuck in a day that just won't end, Monty Python can be a source of joy for you as well. Below are seven sketches from "Monty Python's Flying Circus" that will surely bring a smile to your face.
1. Self-Defense Against Fruit
What makes the above sketch a pick-me-up is that it's a seemingly random and silly topic that's humorous in and of itself. When will you ever need to defend yourself against fruit?
2. The Ministry of Silly Walks
The Ministry of Silly Walks is my personal favorite. The basic premise is a government department that exists for the sole purpose of developing silly walks. John Cleese provides a prime example of what a silly walk should look like. His height and flexibility help make this sketch so amusing.
3. Flying Sheep
The main reason I enjoy this sketch is because of the sheep noises in the background. Because they could not bring real sheep on set, the sheep noises are provided by the rest of the Pythons. The noises alone are enough to make you smile.
4. The Fish Slapping Dance
If you're looking for a short sketch, the "Fish Slapping Dance" is the one. Only 15 seconds long, the "Fish Slapping Dance" is exactly what the title states, and it's a quick way to brighten your day.
5. Flower Arranging
I included this sketch because of the character: DP Gumby, a recurring character on the show. Any sketches involving DP Gumby never fail to make me laugh. Perhaps the same will hold true for you.
6. Undressing In Public
In "Undressing in Public", a beachgoer wishes to change into his swimwear, but keeps getting interrupted while trying to do so. The ending is the crowning moment in the sketch when the beach goer finds himself on stage and ultimately decides to put on a show for the audience
7. Argument Clinic
This sketch is a simple back and forth of two people arguing, one who paid to do so! I know people who argue in a manner similar to the characters in the sketch, part of the reason why it makes me laugh. I'm sure you know someone who does the same.
Whether you're having a bad day or just want a quick laugh, the above sketches will help you out and bring a smile to your face. You can also find many more Monty Python's Flying Circus sketches and silly videos on their YouTube channel.
