Over the last few days, I've not only reflected on all the good and bad that 2016 held, but I've been looking forward to 2017. Instead of making a resolution I won't keep or trying desperately to figure out what the future holds, I thought I'd make a list of the things I'm looking forward to for in 2017. Hopefully, they live up to the excitement I already feel!

1. Sherlock Series 4

I've been following this show since it's debut in 2010. Being a fan of this show has always been a little challenging since there's usually at least a year gap between seasons as opposed to just a few months. I love it anyway, as it is creative, cinematic, and features a cast of incredible actors. I'm excited to see what season four has to offer and ready to rewatch the entire series to prepare for it.

2. Getting Back into the Classroom

I'm a secondary education major, which means I take both education and content classes. Because of the way things are scheduled at UIndy, I was unable to fit any education classes in first semester. I'm excited to get back into the classroom and observe second semester and to begin my junior block experience in the fall. I love being in the classroom and learning from those who are already there.

3. Beauty and the Beast

Anyone who knows me knows that I have a borderline insane obsession with Beauty and the Beast. It's been my favorite movie since I was a kid and I am beyond excited to see the live action version that's hitting theaters in March. I wouldn't have picked anyone (other than myself) besides Emma Watson to be Belle, the actors are all British, and the set, costume, musical score, and animation of the servant characters look incredible. What's not to be excited about?

4. England and Scotland

I'm taking a Spring Term trip back to my homeland (I am convinced I was born in the wrong country) in May. This will be my third time abroad and I am so excited to return to England and see Scotland for the first time. We're doing all kinds of exciting things, like visiting Loch Ness, Sir Walter Scott's home, various castles, and I get to go with some of my friends. I'm excited just thinking about it.

5. My Summer Job

I love, love, love being Ms. Maia to the kids at my church's daycare. It not only gives me experience in my future field but is also rewarding. There is nothing like spending hours a day playing, reading to, feeding, hugging, and just watching children. It can be a challenge to love them sometimes but it's always worth it in the end, especially if they love you too.

6. My New Apartment

Next school year, I'm moving into an apartment with one of my best friends...right next door to some of my other close friends. While I will definitely miss my roommates from this year, I am grateful to be living with someone with a schedule similar to mine, in a quieter environment, and with more space. I'm also excited to see how my friendships with my current roommates will flourish and grow when we aren't around each other all the time.

7. My 20th Birthday

I'm the youngest out of all my friends, so while they're already 20 or close to it, I'm still five months away. It will be bittersweet to bid my teen years goodbye and scary to say that I've been alive two decades (gosh I am old) I'm sure, but I am ready to join the rest of my friends as a 20 something and see where those years take me.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
