On August 29, the world lost American stage and screen comic, actor, screenwriter, film director and author Gene Wilder (1933-2016) at the age of 83. Known for portraying larger-than-life characters in productions ranging from "Young Frankenstein" to "Blazing Saddles," perhaps his most famous work can be found in his portrayal of candy connoisseur Willy Wonka in 1971.

While it's true that many of these one-liners and poetic sentiments are attributed to classic literature by Shakespeare, O'Shaughnessy, and Oscar Wilde and not the original "Wonka" by Roald Dahl, it's the delivery by Wilder and the context within the film that inspire so many, young and old.

Without further adieu, here are seven lessons learned from the world-renowned candy mastermind, Willy Wonka—and the genius who brought him to life.

1. It's okay to be silly.

"A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men."

A-freaking-men. What would life be like without study breaks that end in fits of laughter on the floor? Without terrible puns that make you laugh in spite of yourself? Without all the things we do each day, not because they will land us a job or get us a better grade, but simply because they're...fun? Life without those things sounds pretty horrible to me.

2. Life can get crazy busy sometimes.

"So much time and so little to see. Wait a minute. Strike that. Reverse it. Thank you."

And you know what? That's okay. Take the time you need to get your head on straight, and go about your day. People respect somebody who are willing to show that they're human, too. Everything in life doesn't need to be #Flawless.

3. A little creativity goes a long way.

Oh, and true invention requires 105%:

"Invention, my dear friends, is 93% perspiration, 6% electricity, 4% evaporation and 2% butterscotch ripple."

Yeah...this one pretty much speaks for itself. Butterscotch ripple is key.

4. Sometimes, we just get what's coming to us.

"My dear boy, I promise you they'll be quite all right. When they leave here, they'll be completely restored to their normal, terrible old selves. But maybe they'll be a little bit wiser for the wear. Anyway, don't worry about them."

As much as we love to hate on the spoiled, rotten spawns of Satan in this film, the fact of the matter is they represent tiny parts of all of us. I mean, who wouldn't prefer to get things here and now rather than waiting for them? Is there anybody who wouldn't kinda, sorta, secretly love to do nothing but watch TV and chew gum? Sometimes we need a little tough love, Wonka-style to get us back on track.

5. There's never a wrong time to do right.

"So shines a good deed in a weary world."

Charlie could have walked out of that room and handed Wonka's lifelong work and dream to someone who would use it against him. Instead of getting revenge and being spiteful, he chose to do right by someone who had given him no reason to. Always do the right thing...you never know who may be watching, or what the situation will look like in hindsight.

6. The best things in life are worth waiting for.

"Oh, the suspense is terrible...I hope it'll last."

Sure, it's great to finally get what we want...but isn't it also a let-down in some ways, too? The waiting is almost always the best part!

7. Nothing is impossible.

"If you want to view paradise, simply look around and view it. Anything you want to, do it; want to change the world...there's nothing to it."

Thanks for the lessons, the inspiration, and yes...the candy, Mr. Wonka.

Now, get out there and make a difference. Want to change the world? There's nothing to it.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
