I got stuck on the bus, I was late, and I almost starved. The First Day of Classes (FDOC) passed, happened, or is scheduled in the future for many college first-years. There is no secret formula to bypass the many surprises you may experience on the first day of your college journey. However, after experiencing FDOC for myself, I have learned some lessons that'd improve future FDOC experiences for everyone.
1. Explore Your College Campus Beforehand.
You are going to live here for the next four years, so I would go around with a friend or a group to create a mental GPS of where everything is on campus.
2. Don't Trust College Transportation Until You Know It Like The Back Of Your Hand.
Honestly, walking is good cardio. Try walking to your classes on FDOC to alleviate stress as your legs can move faster than a bus that has to make multiple stops before your stop.
3. Accept That You Might Be Late To A Class.
There's no reason to freak out if you're a minute or two late to class on FDOC. Trust me, the professors know you're a first-year. Just don't start to wander around thinking you'll never make it to class because you can't find it--ask someone for directions!
4. Don't Be A Fashionista, Be Comfy.
College isn't a fashion runway. Yes, you don't want to look like you're hitting the gym just yet; but, you don't want to look like you came out of a magazine. For FDOC, you'd rather focus on classes rather than pulling down your mini dress.
5. Eat, Eat, Eat!
Food is above all else. It's what will help you get through FDOC, so don't skip it, eat it!
6. Class Information May Start Day 1.
Some professors take the good ole route and go through the syllabus the first day. However, you may find out soon that some of your professors will start lecturing the first day and that's totally okay!
7. Enjoy it!
Any first is an interesting experience, especially, the first day of college classes. Go through the day and don't fret too much. You'll either perfectly go to all the classes, or you'll go on an adventure. Either way, it's always a fun memory.
You can apply these lessons in the future or ignore them; but, undoubtedly your first day your first year will (hopefully) be a great yet funny experience
