Yeah sure, we all want to be healthy. We also all know exactly what we should be doing: eating kale, going on runs and drinking whatever those green smoothies are in the morning. However, most of us live in the real world, and have a lot more to worry about than whether or not our quinoa is organic or not, and stop at McDonald's a few more times than we'd like to admit. Here are seven lazy and easy ways to be a little healthier every day:
1. Choose nuts as a snack.
Health professionals are going nuts over nuts! While they don't make a meal themselves, they're great to pick up as a snack, especially if the alternative is Oreos or cookies. Packed with protein, they can help to curb your overeating later in the day, and even give you a little boost if you're feeling sluggish.
2. Move around a little.
It can be so easy to get lost in Facebook or Twitter that we can forget to move from our computers for hours at a time. This can be doubly true if we're super into a study (or cram) session and don't want to break our focus. However, you should get up and stretch every one to two hours, to improve your circulation and increase focus.
3. Add lemon to your water.
One of my personal lazy-girl-healthy movies is adding lemon to my water. It takes less than two seconds to give yourself a kick of vitamin A, and it has the added benefit of incentivizing you to drink more water.
4. Don't pass on the vegetables.
When you go out to eat, don't skip the vegetables. Instead of ordering dessert, add a second serving of a healthy side dish with your meal. It might seem little, but every small change counts for the better.
5. Always carry a water bottle.
One of the best things you can do for your whole body is to drink more water. By carrying a water bottle around with you, you'll be less likely to hit up the vending machine for soda. Plus, you'll always have it on hand, which gives you less of an excuse to skimp. For bonus points, try combining this one with tip three!
6. Take the right vitamins.
Even the laziest people can't make an excuse to not take their vitamins, but it's important to make sure that you're taking the right ones. Everyone knows that vitamin C is good if you're always feeling a little sick, but vitamin D has also been shown to improve mood and immunity, while vitamin B12 can improve your energy levels with no caffeine.
7. Use smarter sugars.
Sure, we all love that perfect white cane sugar, but it's usually highly processed and sometimes even bleached. Next time you need to sweeten up your coffee, choose a more natural option. Personally, I love honey and raw cane sugar, and both of them work wonderfully to curb my cravings.
