7 Important Things Spring Break Taught Me

This spring break has taught me more than just how to relax. It taught me a lot about myself and the world around me, which is not something I expected to gain on a college spring break trip. As the week came to an end, I begged the universe to extend break one more week. I found myself a lot happier after break than when I started. There are a few things I learned that will change me forever.

1. Be adventurous.

Exploring new places and meeting people from a new area has to be one of the most rewarding experiences. We find out more about ourselves when learning things we have never been a part of.

2. I should do what makes me happy.

While everyone is going to the stereotypical spring break destinations, I decided to go somewhere not many people go. This was the best decision for myself, which made my whole break an experience I will never forget. I decided not to follow everyone else and that lead a better life for me.

3. Grow as a person.

I found myself craving more adventure, and wanting more from myself. I found that I wanted to shoot for the stars so that one day, I could travel to even more places than before.

4. Take risks.

Not everything over spring break goes as planned, and that is okay. I learned that sometimes, you don't need a plan, but instead to be a little spontaneous. Most of the time, that is more fun than having a plan.

5. Travel more.

I want to know more about people. I realized that people from all over are just like me with a few cultural differences. I hope to one day learn about more cultures than I knew were possible.

6. I'm young... I need to act like it.

Sometimes I feel that I grew up too fast and spring break is just a "typical college" thing to do. I forget that I am young and need to experience things like this!

7. I have the best friends.

Traveling with people is not always easy. Everyone has their own way of planning, which can get difficult. In the end, I took a step back and realized that my friends are amazing. We did not have a single issue with each other, and it says a lot about a friendship when you can travel together and everything goes well. I have picked the best people to surround myself with.

When spring break rolls around next year, I will be finding another adventure for myself.

The Battle Between College And My Mental Health

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
