Prisma is a new viral app that can change all photos, both professional and amateur, into gorgeous works of art. This new technology recreates each photo from scratch, building a new image instead of simply applying a filter on top of the photo like Instagram. Prisma users can take a photo in the app or select a photo from their camera roll to work with. After cropping the image, you can choose from various stylistic filters and watch as your cell phone pictures are transformed into something beautiful. Below are seven iconic photos that I edited using Prisma.
1. Man on the Moon (1969).
This iconic photo of Buzz Aldrin planting an American flag on the moon has been transformed using Prisma's "Dreams" filter.
2. Tank Man (1989).
The "unknown rebel" standing in front of oncoming tanks at the Tiananmen Square massacre during a peaceful protest in China has been coined as "Tank Man." This photo was edited using the "Marcus D" filter on Prisma, giving it a comic book-esque appearance.
3. Raising the Flag at Ground Zero (2001).
This photo by Thomas E. Franklin was captured on September 11, 2001 at the site of the World Trade Center terrorist attack. These American firefighters were raising an American flag on Ground Zero. The photo was edited with the "Tears" filter on Prisma.
4. Muhammad Ali Knocks Out Sonny Liston (1965).
This photo of Muhammad Ali knocking out Sonny Liston in 1965 was edited using Prisma's "Caribbean" filter. Although the original photo was great on its own, the Prisma image gives the photo more passion and rawness.
5. V-J Day Kiss in Times Square.
This legendary kiss from World War II of George Mendonsa and Greta Friedman was edited using Prisma's "Mononoke" filter, giving the photo a more romantic style.
6. Marilyn Monroe in "The Seven Year Itch."
Marilyn Monroe was an icon for beauty on her own, but this photo of her scene in the film "The Seven Year Itch", edited with Prisma's "#GettUrban" filter, gives the image a sharper, more three-dimensional look.
7. Boston Marathon bombing (2013).
This iconic photo of police reacting to a second explosion at the finish line of the Boston Marathon in 2013 was edited with the "Udnie" filter on Prisma. This Prima filter creates a sense of chaos and confusion that mimics what was occurring in real life when the photo was taken.
The originals of these iconic photos were breathtaking as they were, but using Prisma filters on them gives them a new perspective. You can download the Prisma app for Android, iPhone, and PC Windows/Mac and begin creating your own works of art!
