7 Hypocritical Things in Society

These are hypocritical things people do quite often, I am no exception!

So with Halloween here, I have seen some hypocritical things being posted. So I decided to make a list of hypocritical things people say, or do. I am not saying some of these don't apply to me, I and just pointing out some things. I am warning you that most are about religious groups so you have been warned.

1. Halloween a Pagan Holiday.

I have heard of many Christians deciding not to celebrate Halloween because its a Pagan holiday. But Christmas started as a Pagan holiday. There is plenty of evidence in The Bible suggesting Jesus was not born in the winter at all. Christians wanted a day to celebrate his birth, but had no exact date. So the date that was chosen was the pagan holiday Dies Natalis Solis Invicti. Many believe they choose this date to Christianize the pagan holiday.

2. Mean Christians

I am talking about the Phelps mainly. But there are many Christians who preach kindness, but some are the rudest people. Just because you go to church every Sunday, does not make you automatically a good person. It does not grant you access to Heaven. It does help, but if you are the rude lady who yells at a retail worker for no reason or for a reason they can't control, you are breaking even.

3. Cheaters Mad at Cheating

I have not personally dealt with this one but I know many people have. CHEATING IS BAD NO MATTER WHAT! But there have been people who cheat and then get mad when they get cheated on. We all see the problem there.

4. Criticizing People At The Gym

We praise people who decide they want to make a change in their life. We encourage people to eat healthy and work out. But then you make fun of the "fat" person at the gym. You make fun of the man who is trying to figure out the machine across the room. You make fun of the girl who signed up for the yoga class.

5. Saying Racist Things, But Shaming Others Who Do.

This is one that is close to home. I personally would not say any derogatory terms to anyone. But I have been called a racist for no reason at all. I have seen many people who say derogatory terms to friends and such, but as soon as someone they don't like says it they are shamed. Stop fighting each other because of race, stand together and fight the issues.

6. Using A Death To Riot

When a man is killed by a cop, specifically a black man, protests ensue. Now I only mention the race because I know there have been white, Native American, and Latinos killed, but what protests occur? Anyways, there have been a few times there were protest against police brutality have turned to riots. They protest the illegal actions of police officers but then go and rob and set stores on fire.

7. Saying You Care About The Earth, But Not Putting In Any Effort To Help.

I love the ocean as many of you know. Once I did my first open water dive, I was hooked. But I know the reefs are slowly dying. We liter them with trash, we don't do the small things that in the long run could help. We don't recycle, we don't reuse things and we don't cut back on the gas we use. We are slowly killing our planet, but we don't try and protect it. Stop the mass fishing, stop killing animal for no reason and stop littering.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
