For the past few weeks, I have been wanting to get on a health kick.
It was difficult with me to start at college with mozzarella sticks always nearby, and I always felt intimidated going to the gym. Observing how badly I ate and how little I exercised when I got home gave me the reality check that I needed to start thinking about my health.
Doing some research online as well as hearing tips from friends of mine, I worked up the motivation to start an exercise routine and change my eating habits, and my life has definitely improved since. Though some might be obvious, I've compiled some tips that I've found to help me, and I hope they help you, too!
1. Stop drinking soda
Though this sounds like an easy one, it's tough for people like me to give up something as heavenly-tasting as Dr. Pepper. But once you realize how much sugar is in one can or bottle, it makes you realize that water is the better choice.
2. Eat smaller portions
But not this small. Eating smaller portions can cut some calories and is one of the easiest ways to lose weight. It's certainly been a change for me, but a positive one at that.
3. Don't eat when you're bored
Eating when you're bored is not healthy, and once you stop doing this, you see a difference. Eat when you're hungry and not when you just don't have anything to do.
4. Be consistent with workouts
You can't do your workout routine once a week and expect results. Put reminders on your phone and push yourself to break a sweat!
5. Remember your limits
Don't end up like Wendy Williams. If you need a break when you're working out, take it. You can keep going once you sit for a bit. It's better to acknowledge this than to pull a muscle or pass out.
6. Drink tons of water
Yeah, it can taste blah sometimes, and it's no Dr. Pepper. But water has 0 calories and flushes out your system, and drinking a few bottles a day can do a great deal for your health.
7. Do it with a friend!
It's definitely better to get on that health kick with a friend. You have someone to motivate you and get you out of bed when you really don't want to! Plus, they can cheer you on when you're about to pull a Wendy Williams! (Thanks, Taryn!)
