It's summer, and we all know what that means. It means endless pool parties, multiple BBQ's, music festivals, beach trips and a lot of sunburned skin. But in the end, it's all worth it, because, hey, it's summer!! And over the summer, while having fun, a lot of people aren't treating their bodies healthy during the summer. But there are ways to keep your body healthy and full of energy during the summer. Here are seven health commandments to keep in mind during your summer activities.
1. Drink lots of water
Water is essential to our health. Our bodies are about 50% to 70% full of water, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't drink it. If you don't like plain water, you could infuse it with some fruits or even add some lemon juice. It's best to drink water all year round as well, but in the summer is when you should drink more of it. It's warmer outside, which could lead to dehydration, so drink that water!!
2. Eat more fruits and veggies.
During the summer, there are lots of BBQ parties and pool parties. And usually they have a fruit and/or vegetable table. Obviously many choose to ignore the table and eat the other foods that are provided. But during the summer, there are many fruits in season as well as vegetables. And not only are they good for your body's health, but they also may have some beauty benefits as well.
3. Exercise often.
This may seem like a no-brainer, but to be healthy, you should exercise as often as you can. And you don't have to always go to the gym. You can swim in the pool, take hikes, run et cetera. You can do anything to keep in shape, so do at your leisure!
4. Don't forget to apply sunblock.
Now this does sound like a beauty commandment for the summer, but it is also a health commandment as well. The more sunblock you apply, and the higher SPF it is, you will have a smaller chance at getting sunburned. Because if you get sunburned often, you are actually at a higher risk of developing skin cancer. So lather up!!
5. Stay indoors as often as you can.
This may sound odd, but over the summer it is really hot. And if you are outside for too long, and you aren't staying hydrated, you could be at risk for overheating. If you are overheated, you would feel sick (to your stomach) and just feel exceptionally warm. So when you can, you should stay inside to protect your risk of heat exhaustion.
6. Keep your eating and drinking (alcohol) in moderation.
With the addition of the warmer air, if you ate or drank too much alcohol (while being outside), it is exceptionally unhealthy for your body. Your body would not be able to process your alcohol or your food. In the summer, your body is more delicate than it is during the winter and fall, so overeating and over-drinking can take a toll on your physical health.
7. Wash your body often.
This also does sound like a beauty tip, but it is very important to your health. If during the day, you sweated or applied sunblock, it could build up in your pores and cause breakouts. But it is physically healthy to 'detox' your body of the days toxins, because without washing your hair or even your body, you would not smell good, And swimming in the pool or the ocean does not count. Nope, so don't try it.
