7 Habits of All Successful People

Success doesn't come from luck but from beneficial habits and hard work.

Success seems to be one of the most sought after things in one’s life – it almost seems like some people are fated for it while others are not. What drives people to succeed is not, however, where they come from, but what they do. While it might be true that not all successful people take the same path to achieving their dreams, there are seven notable parallels between their lifestyles. If you want to be a successful person, consider incorporating these seven things into your life; you might be surprised by what happens!

  1. Plan out your day the night before. Okay, this is a simple one, but it is very often overlooked. Successful people have a goal they set for themselves, and they take all the steps they need to reach that goal. Staying organized, listing reminders, and planning ahead of time ensure productivity and prevent those frantic, last minute scrambles to finish work the day before it’s due – not only are those stressful, but they also lower the quality of your work.
  2. Reflect on your day. Self-evaluation and improvement are some of the most essential components for success. Successful people have a goal and want to reach it, so they take small steps towards it everyday. If one day isn’t particularly productive, they consider what went wrong and vow not to repeat it the next day.
  3. Emphasize quality over quantity. Rather than doing ten different activities at once and not fully enjoying either of them, center your attention on a couple of activities you enjoy doing. Focusing on your strengths and passions will ensure a happier lifestyle and will drive you towards success.
  4. Stop dwelling on failures. A major difference between those who reach their goals and those who don’t is their perception of failure. Most people often become demotivated after a series of failures; successful people, on the other hand, identify their mistakes and learn a lesson from them. They then make sure not to repeat that in the future (again, the concept of self-improvement).
  5. Stop planning and start doing. Now, you may think this contradicts the emphasis I put on planning and self-reflection earlier in this post, but it is important to understand that there is a thing such as too much planning. Overthinking your goals can be a waste of time, and it can also result in flawed perceptions of reality; at that point, it is called something else – daydreaming. Make sure to always maintain feasible goals and spend a reasonable amount of time planning out your day’s activities.
  6. Find your own opportunities. This is also another huge factor that drives success. Rather than waiting for opportunity to come to them, successful people create their own opportunities and make the most they can from their situation. Don’t expect opportunities to come to you; instead, take advantage of every situation for growth as a person, whether it is career-related or personal.
  7. Stop procrastinating. The last point, and perhaps the most important, is avoiding procrastination. There’s no denying that we’re all affected by it at some point in our lives, but successful people make a point not to listen to that voice at the back of their heads telling them that they can finish their work tomorrow. Remember, everyone has 24 hours in a day, but what matters is how you use those 24 hours.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!
