7 Grey's Anatomy Quotes Everyone Needs to Know

My Thursday nights are now so empty. I am so used to scheduling my entire life around #TGIT, specifically Grey's Anatomy. With the season finale all wrapped up I’ve taken to re-watching episodes and googling my favorite clips just to fill the void where current episodes of this show usually go.

To say I'm a Grey's Anatomy addict is a huge understatement! I watch the show religiously, I feel personally connected to each character, I am lost (and maybe a little lonely) during the summer between seasons, and if we're being completely honest I have considered switching my English major to a Biology major because Grey's Anatomy characters makes being a doctor seem like the best life ever!

I understand there are people out there who have no idea what I am mean when I talk about how addicted I am to a TV show. Those poor souls! TV, Grey’s Anatomy in particular has gotten me through some tough times. It was something familiar I had when I moved away from home. It has helped me to make some of my best friends (yes, I’m talking to you Becca and Erika). It has been there for me when my real friends, that it helped me to make, were too busy to hang out. Most importantly though, it has given me some very wise advice.

So here are seven quotes from Grey’s Anatomy that everyone needs in their lives whether or not they are an addict like me:

  1. We’ve seen Meredith do it. We’ve seen Cristina do it. We’ve seen Callie do. Whenever the doctors of Grey’s Anatomy run into a problem that their big surgeon brains can’t quite figure out, they usually end up dancing it out, and you should too.

2. While we’re not all surgeons we can save lives in our own way. Derek Shepherd’s call to action is applicable to each of us. Say please and thank you, hold the door, smile at a stranger, you never know when a random act of kindness will be saving a life.

  1. Meredith is so wise. There isn’t a challenge she hasn’t overcome. Here’s a little dose of her great wisdom, because who doesn’t need a little reminder to live in the moment?
  2. It’s nice to have people in our lives but we have to make sure they don’t overshadow us and Cristina makes sure to remind us of that. Remember: You are the sun!

4. Thanks Meredith, this is something we all definitely need to hear from time to time.

5. This just sounds more legit than “best friend” or “pal” or “buddy”. Go find your person and tell them that they are your person, they’ll be flattered that you’re using a Grey’s Anatomy quote on them, trust me!

6. And finally, my personal favorite. Season two, episode five, “Bring the Pain”. If you’re a Grey’s Anatomy fan, go ahead and re-watch this episode (you know you want to) and if you’re not, go ahead and watch it anyway (you know, after having read all these great quotes, that you want to too)!

I hope this either inspires you to re-watch all 12 seasons, or to jump on the bandwagon and start binge watching this wonderful show!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
