1) The 'Land Before Time' Trumped Disney Movies
Don't get us wrong, we loved The Little Mermaid and The Lion King as much as the next person, but if we had to choose one or the other, we probably opted to watch Little Foot's adventures with his friends with their frequent run-ins with "sharp teeth" and wanderings into the "mysterious beyond". It's probably because most of us were the curious kids wondering off farther than we were supposed too as well....so we could relate to the baby dino squad on a personal level.
2) Jurassic Park Should Have Been Called 'Cretaceous Park'...And It Still Bugs You
While it may not be apparent to the general public (i.e "normal people") you are the kind of nerd who recognizes that almost all the dinosaurs focused on in the series (think triceratops and tyrannosaurus...the bigger dinosaurs) were actually part of the cretaceous period (and the LATE Cretaceous period to be specific)...not the Jurassic period which preceded it. While this movie mix-up might not be too unsettling to most people, you can't help but feel like it's the responsibility of moviemakers and authors to check in on these facts before they become mass scale sensations that misguide millions of viewers.
3) You Were The Only One Who Liked Oatmeal....This Was Why
I mean the eggs hatched when you made the oatmeal...need I say more?
4) You Had A Fairly Solid Science Background Early On
From a pretty basic level you didn't really need to "learn" anything in science class until pre-chem and micro bio concepts popped up in middle school. In terms of elementary science, you understood concepts and categories like 'herbivores vs omnivores vs carnivores', how the earth was originally a supercontinent called Pangaea, nocturnal vs diurnal, the big bang theory, how DNA is quintessential to life (etc) and all these concepts were probably embedded in your mind by the time you were five, all thanks to dinosaur books and documentaries. What can we say? Dinosaur kids like facts, and like reciting everything they don't need their teacher to teach them (this know-it-all attitude may have led to some of us being unpopular with our first few teachers, but hey we did know our stuff).
5) Remember These?
The ultimate birthday party favors for kids who love dinosaurs, these kids of games made our eyes light right up.
6) You Probably Have A Nerdy Side
Fine, 'correlation may not mean causation' but in my observation, kids obsessed with dinosaurs tend to grow up with a dorky side (whether it's full blown or completely under the radar, it's there). You're probably drawn to the unconventional and analytical. To put it in other words- in a room of preschoolers who state that they want to grow up to be cops, firemen, teachers, and ballerina's....you wanted to be a paleontologist.
Dinosaur kids are drawn to the prehistoric world because on some level, they like that there was no magic involved at all, and despite this, dinosaurs were still fierce and cool. I'm going to venture to say that you probably grew up to ultimately prefer non-fiction books to fiction. Mark Twain once said "The truth is stranger than fiction"....and therefore you feel that it is much more interesting, useful, and relevant.
7) If You Stumble Upon A Dinosaur Movie Or Documentary....You're Probably Still Going To Watch It
That being said, you also probably consider 'Walking With Dinosaurs' to be a classic film piece that everyone really ought to see at some point in their lives.
So you were the "dinosaur kid" but you were probably part of the "barbie club" or "toy car posse" too. No kid's entire personality can be stereotyped by what toy they played with most, but there is an unspoken unity that kids who loved dinosaurs share. Being one of the kids who were obsessed with dinosaur is a part of your personality that sticks with you, though it shows up in different ways later in life, at heart you will always carry a piece of that dinosaur loving childhood soul with you, and that is a very unique and special thing.
