7 Things Grand Valley Students Should Be Thankful For

This Thanksgiving, we all have so many things to be thankful for. Let's take a moment though to really appreciate how lucky we are to be Lakers at Grand Valley State University. Here are seven things every Grand Valley student should be grateful for this season of thanks:

1. The Mary Idema Pew Library

We truly do have the best library around (as long as the printers aren't broken). Which kind of makes things better when we end up basically living there finals week.

2. T-Haas

You know you love him. We are so lucky to have a President that actually cares about us and our well-being. I mean, he even named his dog after us. That's true dedication.

3. Our beautiful campus

Fall may feel like it only lasts a week, but it's the most beautiful week on campus. You're dreading winter, until you realize GV is still pretty covered in white.

4. Not going to SVSU

Let’s be real here, it's not called GRAND Valley for just any reason. We are obviously better than the Cardinals on all levels.

5. Living so close to Lake Michigan

No matter what season it is, going to see the sunset at beautiful Lake Michigan is always a treat.

6. The bus drivers

Yes, they may be crazy drivers at times, but they do drive us college kids where we need to go (usually with a smile on their faces)! Let's also keep in mind that they pile us onto the already-full buses so we can get to the football games.

7. Making us friends for a lifetime

One semester at GV, and you've already found the people you want to be in your wedding. You know these people will be your friends forever.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
