7 Festive Reasons Why Christmas Is Better Than Thanksgiving

Tis the season!

If you're like me, you've been preparing for the Christmas season since the day after Halloween. But of course there's those people who say "What's your rush? There's still Thanksgiving?" Thanksgiving is great and all, but seriously, Christmas is where all of my hype belongs, and here's why:

1. The music

What Thanksgiving music is out there? Maybe a handful of good ones. What Christmas music is out there? Too much to imagine. Christmas music is annoying to some, but to many it's the #1 thing that can get someone into the cheery Christmas mood and make them want to throw some tinsel on that tree.

2. Stories

The story of Thanksgiving is nice, with the Native Americans and the Pilgrims sharing a feast together to make peace. But it's entirely overdone. And to some who studies history like me, it's a slight silver lining in all the turmoil there really was between the two groups (but we won't dive into that). The story of Christmas is twenty times more heartwarming! Even if you're someone who is not religious and doesn't believe in God and Jesus, it's still a story that will never get old. The story of Christ's birth is one that is passed down and will never die off or get old.

3. Movies

Again, what Thanksgiving movies are there? Not many. What Christmas movies are out there? A boatload of amazing ones that are too good not to love. Whether you're into the cheesy, always happy ending Hallmark movies or if you're like me and enjoy the classics like "It's A Wonderful Life" or "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." Heck, even if you're into horror movies, there's Krampus.

4. The breaks

For college kids, Thanksgiving break is nice, but it comes with a few catches. Professors know you have a lot of time on your hands, so they WILL assign homework to be due right when you get back, so it's not really a "break" sometimes. Also, right when you get back, final season is upon you, and it's nonstop stress for a few weeks. During Christmas break, the semester is over, there's no homework, no finals. All that's left is looking forward to a brand new semester.

5. Decorations

For Thanksgiving, you can put some fall colors around and maybe some stuffed turkey toys, but there's not much. Christmas: forget about it. It's almost a sport. Not only is it exciting, but it's one of the most beautiful sights you'll see all year. A great date idea is just driving around the neighborhood and looking at all the lights.

6. Gifts

Now while the immediate thought with this is about receiving presents, although that's pretty nice, nothing compares to giving. I have a huge family, and nothing fills my heart more than giving my brothers and cousins their gifts on Christmas day. Plus, the shopping deals during this season are unbelievable.

7. Overall mood

Thanksgiving is a great time with the family, don't get me wrong, but with Christmas, every little thing that I mentioned here adds together to make "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year"!

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
