Forget One Direction and NSYNC-- girl power is at an all-time high in the music industry right now, and once you check out these bands you will understand why. From punk rock to lo-fi, these 7 groups are just a few of the kickass groups forming an amazing new generation of female bands.

Hinds

Hinds, which means female deer, are a lo-fi, garage rock, Spanish band made up of Carlotta Cosials, Ana Garcia Perrote, Ade Martin, and Amber Grimbergen. Their attitude shines through in their lyrics and you could either dance or cry to any one of their beautiful songs.

Listen:

Girlpool

Guitarist Cleo Tucker and bass-player Harmony Tividad make up this Los Angeles-bred female duo. They sing together, blending but not quite, and almost shrieking but in the best way possible. Their tracks are catchy but their lyrics still cut deep, and are skillfully crafted and personal: “And if I told you I loved you, would you take it the wrong way?” They are both artistically ambitious and heart-wrenching.

Listen:

The Prettiots

The Prettiots (a combination of pretty and idiots) is a New York band whose ukulele and witty lyrics make for a perfectly charming sound. Their music is relatable and lead singer Kay Kasparhauser’s angelic voice glides over every song making every track and weird cover perfectly irresistible.

Listen:

Childbirth

Childbirth, aka “Seattle’s Feminist Punk Band” is a female trio who perform in maternity gowns and sing about menopause and women’s rights. Their lyrics are sarcastic and their tracks are upbeat and catchy and they are amazing.

Listen:

Ex Hex

Ex Hex is an American punk rock band fronted by former Helium and Wild Flag member Mary Timony. With similarities to The Runaways, they are the picture perfect rock band. According to the band themselves, “Ex Hex is what your older brother's friends listened to. It's what your babysitters listened to”.

Listen:

Stonefield

Stonefield is composed of four sisters who began their musical careers in a shed on a rural farm. Their music is edgy, reminiscent of Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd. The vocals rock hard, as do the riffs and beats-- not to mention the lead singer often sings and plays drums at the same time during live shows. Badass.

Listen:

Skinny Girl Diet

This trio knows how to rock and they are quite literally not afraid to show it. Their lyrics are riot-like and their words are screamed. With propelling drumbeats and heavy guitar riffs, these women are truly a fearless force to be reckoned with and empowering to listen to.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
