Vintage Everyday

When you think of 1970s fashion, you probably think disco and hippies, but do you think the 21st Century? Yes, several trends from the '70s are back, and you probably own many of them. Check out these seven trends from the '70s and how they've come back around. Then click the shopping links to find out how to embrace this turn of events even more!

1. Bell Bottoms

'70s Version:

21st Century Version:

Fun fact: Bell bottoms originated in the Navy because they could easily roll the hem up to avoid getting wet.

Find them now at:

Target with a bold throwback, the printed flare pant.

Express with a classic denim mid-rise jean (pictured above).

2. Maxi Dresses

'70s Version:

21st Century Version:

Find them now at:

Old Navy. They have so many great styles, from tribal prints to jersey solids.

Kohl's. See especially these gorgeous ones by LC Lauren Conrad (including the one above).

3. High Waisted Skirts

'70s Version:

21st Century Version:

(This photo has an added '70s trend of a colorful sweater. The '70s went through a big sweater phase.)

Find them today at:

Modcloth. They have a host of cute skirts, most of them high rise (including the one featured above).

4. Birkenstock

'70s Version:

21st Century Version:

Fun fact: Birkenstocks first came about in 1774 by German Johann Birkenstock. That means that they've been in business for 242 years!

Find them today at:

The Birkenstock website (which sells the ones pictured above).

Cheaper options include these classic ones from American Eagle.

5. Jumpsuits

'70s Version:

21st Century Version:

(The one above follows the '70s trend well because it chooses a uniform color. The '70s liked their pants colorful and especially loved pastels.)

Find them today at:

Forever 21. They have many different options, ranging from the throwback pictured above to floral prints to denim!

Target also has a wide variety of jumpsuits.

6. Platform Shoes

'70s Version:

21st Century Version:

Fun fact: Platforms were originally worn by Greek actors so that the audience could see them better on the stage. The taller the platform, the more important the actor.

Find them today at:

Dillards. The Gianni Bini line has a big seventies flair, like the one above, which nods to the clog, another important shoe of the '70s!

7. Fringe

70s Version:

21st Century Version:

Find them today at:

Francesca's. They have a fun selection of kimonos (another trend from the '70s), many with fringe, like the one above.

American Eagle. They have found a way to put fringe on everything, especially shoes!

With all of these '70s trends coming back, it's no wonder the 21st Century fashion scene feels a bit more groovy. The real question is, which trend will you buy into first? I call dibs on bell bottoms!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
