7 Emotions You Have When You're Reunited With Your Best Friend
Danielle Verhaak

Everyone has that one special friend they have known for years and years. It’s your go-to girl. She is your number one fan. The person you share your deepest darkest secrets with and who knows everything about you. You practically live at her house when you are home from school and her mom is basically your mom. Her siblings are your siblings and visa versa. She is always there for you and you will always be there for her. It’s your best friend. When they school year comes to a close and summer seems like it is within reaching distance, your best friend is the one that you want to see. Seeing your best friend who goes to a different college for the first time when you finally get home from school for good is like no other experience. So, here are seven emotions that everyone goes through when you are reunited with your best friend for the summer.

1. Anxiousness

Everyone is always a little anxious when they are on their way home. What is the summer going to bring? How is my new job going to turn out? Will I get to see all of my friends from high school? The one thing you know for sure is you will see your best friend the moment you get home. It makes you a little nervous, though, that you haven’t seen your best friend for so long, but you know that nothing will have changed between you two.

2. Excitement

As the moment, you get to see your best friend again draws closer and closer, you get more and more excited. The truth is, our best friend is like our second half. She is an equal or even better version of ourselves and we cannot wait to see her. You can’t wait to hang out with her and catch up with her and just do all of the fun things you do together. You can’t wait to be able to read each other’s minds and be able to watch TV for hours not saying anything, but both being in complete a comfortable silence and happiness knowing your best friend is with you. Excitement is an understated when it comes to your best friend and being reunited with her.

Now, what does this exactly mean, you may ask? Well, this is a well-known emotion that is similar to freaking out the moment you get to see your best friend. When you finally see her for the first time over summer, you are just so ecstatic that she is there in the flesh, rather than being seven hours away. You can finally talk to her in person, instead of texting and calling her. You can hug her and smile at her and laugh with her. This emotion is your classic freak out that everyone does when they see their best friend.

4. Joy

Every pair of best friends is filled with joy when they finally get to see each other for the first time over summer. Best friends have so much joy in them. They are basically like sisters. They know everything about each other and do everything together from the very beginning. Joy is a perfect emotion to describe how best friends feel when they are finally reunited. Nothing can break them and the smile across their face cannot be wiped off by anything or anyone.

5. Overwhelming

Truth be told, it is a little (or a lot) overwhelming when you get to see your best friend. There is no doubt that you are over the moon to see her, but there are so many things you have to tell her right this very minute. You have to tell her about that crazy party you went to and that cute boy who finally talked to you in one of your classes. You have to tell her how you broke your phone and what someone said about her the other night. There are so many things that need to be said, but it seems like there is no time to say anything. Words fall out of your mouth like a waterfall and there is no stopping it. You both want to hear everything your other half has to say and you are willing to talk for hours.

6. Nostalgia

There is so much nostalgia in the air when you and your best friend are finally reunited. You both get to catch up on your life now, but she is the one person who has known you since first grade. She is that person who knows everything about you. Both of you connect on a deeper level. You know the same people and with that, comes all of the nostalgia. Nostalgia is in all of the memories you have made together over the years. From your freshman homecoming to your senior prom, you have been through it all together. You share so many inside jokes it’s not even funny. Both of you will start laughing uncontrollably at the smallest thing just because it reminded you of that one time you saw something funny five years ago.

7. Peacefulness

After you have finally seen your best friend, you can now feel at peace. You can feel better after talking to her for hours on end. You still have so much more to catch up on, but now you are on the same page, in the same city, and back together with your best friend. Peacefulness can be felt in both of you, and you couldn’t be happier. Now, finish your final exams, and go be reunited with your best friend.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
