I am asked on a fairly regular basis why I left Oregon to go to college because I obviously love it more than any other place. To be honest, I can't really answer that question. Oregon is clearly the best city in the continental United States. To prove this is true, I will show you seven definitive reasons why it is the best place, and that fact cannot be argued.
1. The most obvious reason, Powell's City of Books
This perfect place is the biggest new and used independent book store in the world, taking up an entire city square block. Days on end can be spent here without a second of boredom. Between the brand new books, the rare book room, and the Portland memorabilia, there is no arguing that Powell's is a must visit for everyone who thinks they have seen it all.
2. Forest Park
Speaking from experience (meaning getting lost in the woods several times), I can tell you that this park is absolutely the best for aimless wandering in the woods, an actual, real hike, or pretty pictures that make you look significantly more outdoorsy than you really are.
3. The Coffee, but even more, THE TEA
From Heart Coffee and Stumptown to Fat Straw and the classic tea bar, there is no arguing that Portland has the perfect variety of hot coffee, iced tea and boba tea.
4. THIS MAN
This really does not even require any explanation.
5. The Rose Test Gardens
Literally the prettiest place ever, the International Rose Test Gardens are one of Portland's simplest attractions.
6. The Food Carts
You can be craving the weirdest food and find it in Portland's food carts. From The Grilled Cheese Grill to Potato Champion, any type or ethnicity of food can be found in the simple food trucks all over the city.
7. This View
...which, in my opinion, is the only proof needed to show that Portland is really perfect.
