When writing for the Odyssey there are so many things that need to be put into a good article. You have to spend time on the idea, find the words to articulate your feelings, and find the right pictures to thoroughly express yourself. Some things often just slip your mind when you are submitting. Here is a list of the seven most common mistakes made when submitting that you can check over before turning one in.
1. Not making listicle points Header 2
Listicles are their own monster, but not making points Header 2 is a common mistake. Always put a line in between the header and text or a picture because otherwise it might mess up formatting down the line.
2. Not attributing in text pictures
Just because they’re in text doesn’t mean they don’t have to be attributed! Just click on the picture, press edit, and attribute! While you’re at it, make sure to center them as well.
3. Not capitalizing correctly
Make sure to capitalize proper nouns and every word in the title! It might seem like common sense, but is a very easy mistake!
4. Don’t swear.
Or rather, if you do, make sure to correctly asterisk the letters. We can still understand what you’re saying even if all of the letters aren’t there.
5. Sub-Titles
When choosing a subtitle make sure it really draws your reader in and isn’t just a short quip from the article. The best way to get people to read is to get them interested about what the article is about.
6. Cover Pictures
Make sure cover pictures are landscape with no words on them! Also make sure to properly attribute these.
7. Make sure to share
Try to share multiple times on different platforms for the best readability. In order for your article to be seen, you need to spread it around! Try Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, even StumbleUpon for best coverage.
