Growing up in late 90s and early 2000s was definitely the greatest, considering what cartoons were on TV. From kids' television stations such as Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Disney Channel, the abundance of cartoons and children's shows never ceased to disappoint. What is disappointing now is how most of the shows we grew up with, excluding "Spongebob Squarepants," of course, are now off the air. This means that children today aren't exposed to the greatness of 90s cartoons that we had growing up. It's a shame. Anyway, here are the best cartoons we grew up with and miss dearly.
1. "The Rugrats" (1991-2004)
No one can ever forget these little rascals and their crazy adventures! I loved watching this comedy and loved the movie just as much! The sequel to this great show that depicted the lives of the babies wasn't nearly as great as the original series but luckily they still play the movie on some channels every now and then!
2. "Powerpuff Girls" (1998-2005)
I always mistakenly called them the "Powderpuff Girls," as many others did. I loved their little adventures and when they saved the town of Townsville.
3. "Courage the Cowardly Dog" (1999-2002)
Although this cartoon may have been scary for some kids, I found it a little spooky but funny as well. I found the characters that came to the Middle of Nowhere very scary but how Courage saves his family every time and his reactions to scary things hilarious.
4. "Dexter's Laboratory" (1996-2003)
This little guy always made my day a little better when his show was on! 8-year-old me always wondered how he was able to get away with having a huge laboratory in his house and how he dealt with the crazy things that happened in it!
5. "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!" (1969-1986)
Although new versions of this old cartoon have been made, they do not even compare to the greatness of the original CBS and ABC versions. I loved the scary, mysterious aspects of this show as well as the humor in it.
6. "Spongebob Squarepants" (1999-Present)
This timeless classic will probably never go off the air because of its huge popularity. Kids in the past and the present still enjoy it today. Many shows that we watched 10 years ago most likely aren't aired anymore. But "Spongebob Squarepants" brings together kids and adults.
7. "Hey Arnold!" (1999-2004)
We all remember the football head and his motley crew. I loved watching the great adventures they had together in their hometown and always wished my bedroom looked like Arnold's!
