I believe there are certain rules that each and every one of us should live by. I'm not saying you MUST live by these rules, but I think all of us would benefit from these seven simple cardinal rules in life.
1. Live in the moment.
Be conscious and aware of your present. Start living in the moment by adopting small habits. For example, adopt a new hobby. Whether it's something you've tried before and haven't succeeded at or something new you've always wanted to try. Change up your routine by either going a different way to work or take on a new path when it comes to school or work.
2. Stop worrying about the future.
It's OK not to know what's going to happen next. Life is a journey, and it's OK to go with the flow of life. If you're too busy worrying about what your future will bring you, it will drive you bonkers. There is no point in dwelling on something you have no control over.
3. Appreciate what you have and never compare yourself to others.
You don't know what other people are going through. Yes, some people may have it better than you. But others will have worse than you. It's important to realize how good you really have it. If you have a roof over your head, are in school, working, etc., you really have nothing to complain about. Appreciate the little things in life.
4. Don't worry what other people think of you.
There is no point in worrying about what other people think of you. It doesn't matter whether someone likes you or not. Always be you and never change yourself just to impress someone. It's important that you love yourself first and foremost.
5. Be comfortable in your own skin.
Always believe in yourself. It's important to feel confident in everything you do. Think positively and good things will come your way. When you feel comfortable in your skin, that's when you show inner strength.
6. Don't let your past haunt you.
Certain experiences provoke emotional responses that will bring back your haunted past. But if you're always living in your past, you'll get nowhere. Why dwell on past mistakes? Yes, you can learn from your past, but it's important to move on. I read that life is like a book: If you're stuck dwelling on your past, it's like re-reading the same page in a book over and over again.
7. Smile every day.
Smiling every day will show you that even the littlest things can make your day or someone else's. Someone said once, let your smile change the world, but never let the world change your smile.
