Any devoted One Tree Hill fan knows that it's nearly impossible not to love Brooke Davis. Throughout all nine seasons, we got to watch her transition from a wild, carefree party girl into a successful (but still sassy) businesswoman and mother. Brooke Penelope Davis is a lot of things. She's beautiful, independent, charming, stylish, brilliant, and an incredibly devoted friend.
But there's one thing about Brooke that makes her character so lovable: she's real. She makes a lot of mistakes and faces a lot of challenges in her life, like having her heart broken, her rocky relationship with her mother, and her struggle to have children, just to name a few. Even if you've never watched an episode of One Tree Hill, B. Davis can still give you some pretty solid life advice.
1. "People are gonna label you. It's how you overcome those labels, that's what matters."
Brooke is a perfect example of someone who overcame the labels that others placed on her. She faced criticism from a lot of people, including some of her closest friends. Despite this, she was able to be herself and prove to the world that she was more than just a ditsy cheerleader. In a society that tells us who to be and how to act, we could all learn a thing or two from B. Davis about overcoming labels.
2. "You don't get to have me. Not my body, and sure as hell not my heart."
After dealing with a lot of heartbreak and disappointment, Brooke learned how hard it is when you give yourself to the wrong person. She began to realize that one-night stands with random guys, or even being in a relationship with someone that doesn't make you completely happy, can leave you feeling pretty empty. So, she started standing up for herself.
3. “Life kicks you around sometimes. It scares you and beats you up, but there’s a day when you realize you’re not just a survivor, you’re a warrior. You’re tougher than anything it throws your way. You are.”
Out of all the One Tree Hill characters, Brooke undoubtedly faces the widest range of struggles. Her parents hardly give her the time of day, her boyfriend falls in love with her best friend, she gets used, she can't find love, and she even gets robbed and attacked in her own store. However, no matter what is thrown her way, Brooke gets back up every time. She fights for her family, for her friends, and for herself.
4. "If you had a friend you knew you’d never see again, what would you say? If you could do one last thing for someone you love, what would it be? Say it. Do it. Don’t wait. Nothing lasts forever.”
Ugh, that series finale quote gets me every time. But nothing has ever been more true. Brooke is the perfect example of someone who doesn't let her life get away from her. She isn't afraid to go after what she wants or say how she feels. She realizes that things can change in the blink of an eye.
5. "Once you lose yourself you have two choices: find the person you used to be, or lose that person completely."
Sometimes, we lose our sense of self. We forget what truly matters, and then one day we wake up and realize that we aren't the person we used to be. Brooke reminds us that we need to either reshape our lives and find the old us, or be okay with the person we have become.
6. "Why do people waste so much time fighting? Where does it get us?"
After so many petty fights with friends and family (especially Peyton), Brooke knows that it's pointless to stay mad at the people you love. People are so much happier when they learn to let things go. Life is too short to be fighting all the time.
7. "Let me tell you something about love -- it doesn't knock often. And when it does, you have to let it in."
After so many failed relationships, Brooke starts putting up walls. She starts being so careful with her heart that at first she doesn't even trust her future husband, Julian Baker. After a while, she realizes that she needs to open herself up to love, and that sometimes it's OK to let people in.
