Last summer I studied abroad in Palma de Mallorca, but did a little more than just study. Luckily, I was able to explore a lot of the island and its hidden gems. Although we spent a lot of time lounging at the closest beach to campus, we were able to make our way to some of the more scenic areas as well. If Mallorca is known for one thing, it's the beautiful beaches (and Magaluf, but we'll save that for another time).
1. Playa de Illetas
This beach is small but quickly became one our favorites. There's a bus that takes you here from central Palma, so it's very convenient to get to. Not to mention there's a gelato place right on the beach, that makes for a perfect snack to cool down with.
2. Port de Sóller
We took a day trip to Sóller, where we then took the Tranvía de Sóller to one of the cutest beaches in Mallorca. On the port, you can rent paddle boards, boats, and take part in other fun water activities. The surrounding area is filled with cafes. This is was one of my favorites because the area has so much charm and life to it, and the surroundings are stunning.
3. Anima Beach Palma
This beach is not the most special, by any means, but I'm including it because of location. Anima Beach is the beach we would walk to after class, because of its close proximity to campus and the town. We could always count on Anima Beach to be filled with people, which made it more fun. This picture is of the walkway right behind the beach.
4. Es Trenc
Es Trenc is one of the most famous beaches, located in the southern part of Mallorca. It is somewhat secluded so there are no hotels or resorts around, which makes it very peaceful.
5. Cala Llombards
I absolutely loved this beach. We arrived shortly after a storm had just ended so it was very quiet at the time. The beach has a white sandy area with chairs as well as open space to lay out on your towel. It also has rocky sections that you can walk out to. On the other side is an area
6. Hidden area around the corner from Cala Llombards
Okay, I'm sorry, I don't know the name of this one, but it was one of the reasons I loved Cala Llombards so much. In the same residential area, if you drive up a hill and follow some signs you'll come to see a pathway in between a house and wooded area. Follow the steps all the way down, and you find this magical place. This is where I fell completely in love with Mallorca. It deserves three photos from three different angles. You're welcome.
7. Cala de Deià
Last but most definitely not least, is Cala de Deià. This one takes a hike to get there, but it's worth it. Once there, you can swim out and climb up to even more incredible views. There is also a spot that people can jump from, although we were told it was not recommended (like that stopped us).
