The weather is warming up, and everyone is enjoying these amazing 70 degree weather days. While spring isn't officially here, it's at least starting to feel like it is. Here are some ways to make the most out of this beautiful weather and improve your artistic skills along the way.

1. Flower Picking And Pressing

What better way to celebrate the arrival of spring than with some good old fashioned flower picking. Pick a beautiful bouquet, and then press them within the pages of a heavy book. They'll last longer and can even be used in other art projects. And besides, you'll actually get some use out of those big expensive textbooks.

2. Designing A New Spring Outfit

One of the best things about spring is the fashion. The clunky layers and dark colors of winter are replaced by flowery, flowy pastels. It's even more fun when you make your own clothes! Grab a pattern and some fun fabric and get to work. If you can't sew, don't worry, there are plenty of tutorials on how to make fun clothes and accessories that are for beginners, or don't even involve sewing at all!

3. Shopping At A Farmer's Market And Making A Recipe With Fresh Ingredients

So much good fruit is coming into season, and the best place to find it is at your local farmer's market. Pick a weekend, buy some fresh produce, and make it into a delicious recipe. I recommend making a yummy spring-inspired fruit salad. It's simple, tasty, and can be made right in your dorm room.

4. Going On A Nature Hike And Taking Photos Of What You Discover

Spring time is when all of nature comes alive again. Celebrate its beauty by finding a local park with a walking trail. Bring along a camera and take photos of anything that strikes your fancy. You can even bring along some friends and make it into a scavenger hunt! Just make sure to leave the nature where you find it.

5. Taking An Awesome Spring Break Trip And Writing A Story Or Song Based On Your Experience

Whether you prefer the beach or the big city, plan a trip with your besties or that special someone and have an amazing spring break. Keep a journal every day to keep track of all the awesome stuff you get to do. When you come back use the journal as inspiration to write a short story or song. Be as literal or as abstract as you want. Either way, you'll have a piece of art that will capture the memory of your trip forever.

6. Visit A Sculpture Garden

The best way to get better at art is to observe it. So take a trip to a local sculpture garden and enjoy spending a lazy spring afternoon wandering around. Try to analyze the sculptures and see if you can figure out the inspiration behind them. Bring along a sketch pad to draw out some of what you see. Or just pair it with a picnic (which many gardens allow), to make a fun and unique date.

7. Find Inspiration In All Signs Of Spring

No matter what type of art you create this spring, look to nature for inspiration. It's such a beautiful time of the year full of renewal and rebirth. Use it to put a fresh spin on an old project, try a brand new form of art, or create a piece that celebrates nature. And don't forget to enjoy this gorgeous weather!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
