The start of a new year means the start of new music! For this upcoming year, in particular, several of our most beloved artists have fresh new albums in the works. Keep an eye out for your favorites this year!

1. Travis Scott - “Astroworld"

After Scott dropped "Antidote"at the end of 2015, he almost immediately propelled himself to stardom and has had a successful two years to say the very least. As his following album, "Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight" (2016), has gained popularity within today’s hip-hop, he is ready to succeed once again with his upcoming album "Astroworld."

2. The 1975 - “Music For Cars”

While The 1975’s past two significant albums ("The 1975" and "I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it") were largely based on stories that were presumably obtained from Matty Healy’s real-life experiences, the album in progress is said to be far different than the rest.

3. Kid Cudi and Kanye West - “Everybody Wins”

With a collab from these two, everybody sure will win. Although known for his 2009 hit "Pursuit of Happiness" for years on end, Kid Cudi has continued to produce quality albums where he has collaborated with Travis Scott, Pharrell Williams, Kendrick Lamar, etc. On the other hand, it goes without saying that Kanye West is a music icon and his work is loved by many. The combination of musical and philosophical talent exhibited continually by both artists will undoubtedly bring a very strong album.

4. Vampire Weekend - “Mitsubishi Macchiato”

While this band has seemingly flown under the radar since the 2013 album "Modern Vampires of the City,"they are still one of the most successful indie-rock bands of their time. The theme of the upcoming album "Mitsubishi Macchiato" is said to be centered around the principles of springtime and the cyclical nature of our lives as we have found them.

5. Cardi B - TBA

As the 25-year-old has had a momentous start to her career in the hip-hop world with her single "Bodak Yellow," she is now more prepared than ever to start building her own brand. As a new member of the seemingly elite group of female rappers, she’s on her way to kickin’ it with the big names of female hip-hop.

6. Arctic Monkeys - TBA

Although the group has not produced anything new since "AM"in 2013, it’s still evident that it’s hard for any other band to compete with the historical success the Arctic Monkeys have created. Regardless, it has been four whole years. Having said that, there’s clearly a lot riding on this album and the reaction from their dedicated and very patient fanbase.

7. A$AP Rocky - “Testing”

On January 4th, Rocky leaked a snippet of a new song on his Instagram story accompanied by the caption: “testing?” While we can presume that this was a song from the upcoming album, fans ranging from the A$AP Mob basis to Rocky’s solo career alike will patiently wait for the entirety of the album to drop.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week.
