On Jan. 14, 2016, the world lost another awe-inspiring artist, actor and intellect. Alan Rickman, widely known and adored for his role in the "Harry Potter" franchise as well as his performances in "Die Hard," "Sense and Sensibility," and as a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, passed away from cancer. Similar to the millions of "Harry Potter" fans around the globe, I treasured Rickman's portrayal of Professor Snape, as his wit, innate talent and true commitment to the character never ceased to captivate me. The following are seven thought-provoking and awe-inspiriting quotes by the man whose dedication to and knack for exceptional acting will be remembered, always.
1. "Actors are agents of change. A film, a piece of theater, a piece of music or a book can make a difference. It can change the world."
2. "On the screen were some flashback shots of Daniel, Emma and Rupert from 10 years ago. They were 12. I have also recently returned from New York, and while I was there, I saw Daniel singing and dancing (brilliantly) on Broadway. A lifetime seems to have passed in minutes."
3. "I want to swim in both directions at once. Desire success, court failure."
4. "I think there should be laughs in everything. Sometimes, it's a slammed door, a pie in the face or just a recognition of our frailties."
5. "If people want to know who I am, it is all in the work."
6. "I do take my work seriously and the way to do that is not to take yourself too seriously."
7. "It is an ancient need to be told stories. But the story needs a great storyteller. Thanks for all of it, Jo."
