Sixty-one years later does the legacy of Malcolm X still live on today?
Malcolm X a once criminal turned to crusader a Renaissance man on May 19, 2016 el- Hajj Malik el- Shabazz would have been 91 years old. Malcolm X was fatally assassinated on February 21, 1965 many would say by the nation of Islam radicals that were making Malcolm X life difficult over the years. Malcolm X didn’t start out with much but he prospered and grew into his position. Malcolm X was fearless in his teachings leading thousands of people into a better light. What are we doing to preserve the legacy of this black culture activist and pioneer?
If Malcolm X was alive today I’m sure that he would simile. In this generation, we have experienced the United States first ever African American President in Barack Obama who in a few months will be leaving the White House after two terms, and a total of eight years. Having Barack Obama become the first African American to hold the highest office in the land meant that the dedication of people such as Brother Malcolm had paid off. The impact of having Barack Obama in the White House has been tremendous the culture change that has happen to America. The minority is now more involved in the process of voting and decision making. President Obama has gotten less credit for the improvements he has made such as an better economy, universal health care, and making relations normal with Cuba since the cold war. Malcolm X the activist would shake his head today if he saw the level of violence in the United States broken criminal system. The system is broken where a first time offender could get twenty years, but a man that shoots a teenager in broad day light doesn’t go to jail. The highlight of Malcolm X legacy would have to be the presence of the Black Lives Matter Movement. Malcolm X raise to power was all about faith and standing up for what one believes in. The great thing about the Black Lives Matter Movement is that it was created from this generation for the next generation of young people to know that black lives do matter we can unite to make an impact in a bright light without killing each other, but standing up for what we believe in.
Sixty-one years later today Malcolm X legacy still lives on this generation. African Americans must continue to push the status qou so that the legacy may continue to live on forever.
