If you're from Pennsylvania or New Jersey, chances are you're going "down the shore" this summer. Here's a few ways to know if you're the average New Jersey beach town "slocal" (summer local).
1. You probably identify by your exit number.
I personally am a resident of Sea Isle City which is exit 17 off of the Garden State Parkway.
2. You have a favorite ice cream parlor, pizza shop, and restaurant.
You're always thinking about how much you can't wait for it to be summer so you can go to your favorite places that are closed during the off-season. You also probably have an extreme allegiance to these places and look down upon people who choose your "competitor".
3. You'll travel the coast as much as possible to see friends.
You may be staying in Wildwood the same week your friend is staying in Brigantine and there's no doubt that you'll travel to see them and hang out at their beach even if you wouldn't normally make a drive like that back where you're actually from.
4. You know that holidays are 10 times more fun.
As long as traffic isn't a concern, the holidays at the shore are way better from back home. Nothing beats sitting on the beach watching fireworks on the fourth of July and getting to see 4 firework shows in one because you can see the shows from the neighboring beach towns.
5. You probably work a summer job.
The only problem with working a summer job is picking the right hours so you can make money, tan on the beach, and still go out at night with friends. But being in such a tourist driven town, you can probably interchange the word "work" with "social-hour" especially if you're working in the food industry or retail.
6. You dread the end of the summer.
Not only does it suck when summer ends because it means back to school or work, but it also means leaving this place called home that makes every day feel like a vacation.
