6 Ways You Know You Are Turning Into Your Mom
Nikki Klatka

As I get older, I’m beginning to hear the statement “you’re just like your mother” more and more. And while I have fought hard to ignore this statement for my 20 years of existence and stubbornly focus on the fact that I am my own person, I’m also starting to realize that it truly is inevitable that we all become very similar, or at least somewhat, to what our moms are like. Think about it! We spend way too much time around them to never not pick up their own quirky qualities and mannerisms. So, I have put together this list of everything that has made me realize that I am 100% turning into my mother. I hope you can relate.

1. You’re starting to wear your hair very similar to the way she wears hers.

Running low on time? Throw a big clip in your hair and call it a day. It makes it easier when you want to roll the windows down. Whether it be a style or even just the color, you find yourself more attracted to your mom’s favorite go to look.

2. You find yourself giving the same motherly advice to your friends as your mom gives to you.

“You haven’t eaten today? We need to fix that. Let me see what kind of snack I have in my purse for you.” Whether it be giving advice about food, boys, or even just life, you find yourself wanting to take care of those around you just like your mom does for you.

3. You are beginning to have similar mannerisms.

You see a random person at the grocery store that has super cute shoes on? No problem! Walk over there and strike up a conversation with them about it! Whether your mom is shy or outgoing, you definitely begin to see those same behaviors within yourself.

4. You find you are more interested in the things she enjoys.

Whether it be similar books, favorite TV shows, etc., you find yourself interested in all of the things she has raved about for years. Maybe it’s because you’re getting older now or maybe it’s just because it’s inevitable that you’ll end up just like her.

5. You have picked up on some of her “famous lines.”

It could be anything from a quote she always likes to refer back to or just a quirky saying that’s all her own. You now understand why she always uses it and refers back to it—it all just makes sense now.

6. You’re starting to look just like her.

This is personally one of my favorites. The amount of times that I have been called my mother’s name is almost too many to count at this point. Now, this might not be true for everyone, but I know there are others out there that know exactly what I’m talking about.

But at the end of the day, you and I both know we wouldn’t want to have it any other way.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…
