Well, it’s that time of year again: professors are piling on the work, there’s a ton of projects to be finished and papers to write with so little time left. It can be an incredibly frustrating and stressful time.
Between all the work you have to do from now until the first week of May and going to part-time jobs, downtime can seem limited or completely nonexistent. But, fear not! For there are plenty of ways you can destress that only take about an hour or so from your day. And everyone could probably use an hour to themselves at this point, right?
1. Hit up your nearest gym.
As much as we'll all probably joke about being “allergic to exercising,” it can be really good for us. Not only does it help release all your pent up frustration and stress, but it also gives you the energy to start your day and allows for your brain to dole out a nice helping of endorphins. Plus, you’ll feel good and accomplished as you leave the gym, knowing your body is going to thank you for putting it do good use.
2. Read before bed.
Even on those nights you think it’s going to be a piece of cake to fall asleep, you suddenly find yourself staying up into the wee hours of the morning. The solution? Grab that book you’ve been meaning to start or finish! Reading is a great way to relax your mind and body before you’re finally ready to fall asleep.
Using your phone before you go to bed actually stimulates your brain and prevents you being able to go to bed. But reading helps calm your energy and makes you feel all nice and warm and sleepy. Trust me, you’ll knock out a lot quicker with a great book in hand.
3. Spend some money.
Now, I’m not suggesting to spend all your money: just enough that you get some quality time with a friend or friends or even a family member. Just go out to have some fun every once in a while. You’re allowed to relax in the form of enjoying yourself!
4. Chill out with your favorite flick.
Everybody’s got that one movie or TV series that just picks them right up and makes them feel a thousand times better. Take an hour or two to do just that: laugh!
5. Focus on your writing.
If you’re a struggling author like me, those short and wonderful spurts of creative juices can be few and far between. So, when you get them, hit the computer or notebook to write! It can be a great way to relax and have some fun. Plus, you’ll be grateful for the writing time.
6. Hang out with your clique.
The best and most effective way to destress and forget about school is to go hang out your friends! Go see a movie, hang out shopping all day, go get lunch or dinner, hang out at a local bar, the possibilities are endless! Odds are, your besties are looking for an escape, too.
