6 Ways To Get Your Name Out There

Every day, I wake up thinking about how to get my name out there and network enough to get my entire career jump started. I figured I'd share with everyone some ways that I try to get my name out there on a daily basis and some tips on how to get more likes and follows as well, that I've learned.

1. Instagram

Instagram is definitely a great way to get your name out there, especially as a fashion major. Definitely a great way to show my personal style and gain a following where I get to showcase me as a person, Instagram is also my main subject of this article!

2. #Hashtags!

Hashtagging definitely helps get you noticed by people who don't follow you at all. I use any hashtag that relates to my outfit and just me as a person. This screen shot is actually of some of the hashtags I used on the photo I got the most likes on. They're definitely helpful.

3. Filters

One thing I've learned is that your filters should be consistent--like my go-to filter is Juno at about 55 percent. It helps to keep your feed somewhat consistent and visually appealing.

4. Keep a theme

Having a specific feed is a good way to gain followers. Instagram is super visual, as you all know, and a lot of the time, followers like to see a well-kept feed that has some sort of theme. You can kinda see what my theme is. I honestly just figured it out, and it's definitely something easy to screw up, but it's not too difficult to keep up with.

5. Plan Your Posts

Planning your posts definitely makes it easier to post consistently. There's also a science to the times you post, which you may or may not have known. Having the posts ready makes it 20 times easier to post at a specific time of day to get the most out of your photo. This definitely helps with gaining a following. I've learned this from experience, as I lost a number of followers because I didn't post something new for like five days.

6.Odyssey and Other Similar websites

Odyssey definitely helps get your name out there, especially to other students in your school who may read Odyssey. It's kinda difficult picking a topic to write about every week. I always wanna write about so many different things; I just never think they're good enough. I haven't done so bad so far, though, right?

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
