6 Ways To Better Ourselves

We always have room to become even better

We all think that we are good and decent people, and it's true. We all have good in us and do things that make us good people, but we also have room to grow. We should never stop trying to become better, so here are 6 things you can do to be a little better.

1. Listen more than you speak

Listening to someone and actually hearing what they have to say is something everyone needs. We are all going through ups and downs and having someone there to listen to our problems as well as celebrate our victories is sometimes all we really need; be that person for others. - James 1:19

2. Give what you can

Every cent and every minute that goes toward helping others is never a waste. Always keep an eye out for charities you want to donate to and volunteer opportunities that need your help. Giving your time or money goes a long way to helping those in need as well as changes you for the better. - Proverbs 19:17

3. Be Thankful

Always be thankful for what you have, no matter how small. Learning to appreciate all the little gifts can keep us from taking the bigger things for granted. Try writing down the things you are thankful for. This can help us appreciate them better and is said to help make us happier. - 1 Thessalonians 5:18

4. Take risk

The lessons one can learn from taking risks is far greater than those we learn from our comfort zones. Risks can be blessings we wouldn't have otherwise gotten or mistakes we learn and grow from. Either way, taking risks will help you to learn, grow, and become stronger. - 2 Corinthians 5:7

5. Live in the present

One lesson that we all learn sooner to later is that we aren't here for very long. Life is too short to worry about the little things or to dwell on what we can’t change. Focus on today and make it as good as it can be. Always strive to have something good come out of each day. - Matthew 6:34

6. Love as much as you can

Again, life is short. Love as many things and as many people as you can. Love your family, friends, neighbors, bus drivers, teachers, cops, waiters, doctors and anyone and everyone else that you can. Show love to everyone because love is powerful and just what this world needs. - John 13:34

Now I challenge you to pick two, three or even all six of these and put them to the test! Have your own ideas of how to better yourself? Comment them below so that we may all become better people any way that fits us best!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
