Here's How To Avoid End Of Semester Stress

With the semester coming to a close that can only mean one thing: stress on stress on stress. Not only do you have a final in every single class, but your teachers also decided to assign you a ton of projects and papers due all in the same week. You already know how the last few weeks of the semester will look for you... staying in the library until 4 a.m., barely having enough time to eat a single meal, and have we figured out if there's a way to get caffeine in an IV yet? But before you let yourself get too overwhelmed, here are six ways to avoid end of the semester stress:

1. Plan ahead

Look at your schedule and make yourself aware of every due date/ meeting/ assignment you have for the week, that way you can give yourself time to plan it all out without having any last minute surprises

2. Make a list

When you know you have a big week ahead, make up a list of everything you have to get done that way you can get it out of your head and onto paper which is the first step to avoiding feeling stressed. Try writing the list out in order of importance, or maybe in the order that it's due. And make sure to cross everything off as you get it done; you’d be surprised how much better it can make you feel.

3. Give yourself a break

Make sure you allow yourself time to take a step away from your work and relax, plan time to go to the gym, or watch one episode on Netflix (but just ONE), or take a small nap. taking time away from the never ending stream of work can do wonders

4. Get enough sleep

It's overstated, but making sure you get enough sleep at night is what will keep you from having a breakdown the next day. When there's a lot on your plate and you can barely keep your eyes open, it's only going to add on to the stress you were already feeling.

5. Cut back on the caffeine

It’s a classic move for anyone who has a huge workload to overload on caffeine, but too much could actually do more harm than good. Caffeine can make you feel jittery, anxious, and make you less able to concentrate so make sure you don’t overdo it!

6. Stay positive

You’ll make it through, whether you have to survive a day from hell or a week from hell, eventually it’ll be over and you’ll come out the other side. Stay focused, stay positive, and get it done!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
