As we wind down the semester, we're also winding up the cold weather. Before you know it, there will be snow on the ground and flu season will be in motion. Infectious bugs will be spreading like wildfire, and the last thing that anyone wants is to be sick. Here are the easiest ways to prevent catching illnesses this year:

1. Always wash your hands.

Whether you're heading to the bathroom or shaking someone's hand, it's always nice to have clean hands. Keep some hand sanitizer with you at all times to keep those hands clean and bacteria-free! A lot of infections spread through human contact, so this simple step will minimize your chances of catching a bug.

2. Take your vitamins.

We are all busy and sometimes forget we need to take vitamins, but they're really important! Vitamins boost your immune system, which fights off any infections that may have made their way into your body. Vitamins have all kinds of positive effects for the body, and they're worth taking.

3. Use coconut oil.

Coconut oil has so many uses, so I suggest investing in some. Not only is it incredibly good for skin and hair, but it also boosts your immune system! This wonderful oil has unique fats that actually prevents several illnesses and diseases including the flu! Check out how great coconut oil really is for you.

4. Don't eat or drink after anyone.

Illnesses that aren't airborne are still spread through bodily fluids. Eating or drinking after others is one of the quickest ways to get yourself sick, so you should most definitely avoid it.

5. Get some rest.

Your body can naturally fight off infections, but it needs lots of rest. According to this study about sleeping and illness, the less sleep, the more likely someone is to get sick.

6. Get vaccinated!

Vaccines are a great way to prevent any illnesses this season. They are not dangerous and keep illnesses from spreading out of control.

So take charge this year, and don't let the cold or the flu stop you from doing your best towards the end of the semester. Practice healthy habits for your immune system and you'll be OK through these tough winter months coming up.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
