6 Ways to Give Rather than Receive This Holiday Season

The Holidays are always an exciting time. Christmas music, decorations, Christmas treats, Holiday parties, Christmas movie marathons and of course presents!

Christmas isn't celebrated because we get to break the bank and give to others, or because we get to compile a list of things we want others to give us, because our bank account is screaming "DON'T DO IT!" and while these words are coming from a full-time college student who's crunching in 30+ hours to pay bills; let's not forget that while Christmas is the perfect time to give back.

Now, before you read on, this isn't a list of things you can go buy at the nearest Target.

It's more of the touchy-feely list of things that don't cost a thing, but make all the difference!

After all, I truly believe Jesus is the reason for the season and I believe, in the midst of all the madness that has followed 2016, Jesus wouldn't mind if we gave a little more than a gift with a price tag

So, here's a list of things you can give to others this year in a great attempt to spread that CHRISTMAS CHEER!

1. Volunteer

You may not have money, and you may feel like you don't have time but, take time this Holiday Season to give a little something to anyone in need. It could be: offering to babysit so that mom and dad can go on a much-needed date, staying extra hours, spending your morning volunteering, going the "extra mile" at work. There are so many ways to give back

2. Donate

I know we all ask for things around this time of year, for things we think we "need" but don't forget there is A-L-W-A-Y-S someone else out there who needs exactly what you got. So whether you have extra coats, shoes, food, hair... like in the case of this sweet girl, give what you got. If she can do it, you can too!

3. Have a friend-date with an old friend

Even if it's been years, and it's weird: the Holidays are the perfect time to check on friends you haven't seen in a while, see how they're doing, be all ears and give lots of hugs, if needed of course!

4. BE EXTRA CHEESY

The Holidays can be extremely difficult, lonely and depressing for many people. So spread the Holiday Cheer and give someone a reason to smile! Basically, be like Buddy the Elf.

5. Put the phone down

Take lots of pictures, listen intently as you spend time with friends and loved ones, take a break from social media and spend time making memories with those you love!

6. Pray for someone

THE MOST IMPORTANT

Pray works, Jesus IS the reason for the season, these seasons aren't easy for everyone so take some time and pray for someone.

IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS

Happy Holidays!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
