The summer months are just around the corner and everyone you talk to is spending them differently. You might be dreading this season or counting down the days until the start. It all depends on what one of six roles you'll be playing.
1. The Intern
Thousands of college students across the country dream of the perfect, summer internship; one that will help them make connections and lead them to success. But this also means early mornings, long commutes, and lots of coffee runs. There’s a ring to “the intern” that sounds so official and causes you to remember that you and your friends are on the road to adulthood. Scary.
2. Hometown Hostage
These are the people that land classic summer jobs, usually at a place they worked at in high school. These are your neighborhood lifeguards, camp counselors, and ice cream scoopers. They complain that they’re missing out on an adventure but enjoy having their car to drive and a company of old friends at the end of the day.
3. Admirable Volunteer
Some of the students are so eager to make a difference and jump at the opportunity as soon as they aren’t trapped in class. They might stay in the area and donate their time to work at a local hospital or travel to an impoverished area and rehabilitate homes. Any experience is bound to be extremely rewarding. And if the lack of paychecks don't make them sad, all the more power.
4. Summer School Student :(
Unfortunately, not all college students can take the time off; they choose to get the credit out of the way instead. If this is you, keep it up. There will be plenty more sunny days in your bright future. It will all be worth it!
5. Envied World Traveler
Everyone knows somebody like this. This person seems to be in a new city every week eating exotic foods and seeing stunning landmarks. They won’t let you forget it either because it’ll be all over their Snapchat stories. And their Instagram account will be very active, so you can live vicariously through them.
6. Suntanned Festival Fan
Then there are the people who live for music festivals whether it be Country Thunder or Lollapalooza. They wait all year for these weekends. It is likely they’ll be spending most days of the summer planning their outfits. Their break from that will be tanning at the beach where they can listen to all the artists who will be performing. They probably bought tons of tickets back when the lineup was released and are looking to sell a few, so hit them up.
