You've received the most amazing news. Your phone buzzed with a notification before your alarm went off that morning, letting you know that due to the weather conditions, all classes scheduled that day are canceled. This is better than you expected.
Now—how do you take advantage of the day?
1. Get up early.
GiphyI know the temptation to sleep in is there, but trust me, if you want to catch up on all of those assignments you've been putting off, you shouldn't. Getting out of bed is the first step, and once you cross that hurdle, the rest won't feel as difficult.
2. Dress as if you have classes to go to.
GiphyWhenever I plan to have a day in dedicated to doing homework, I want to dress in sweats and never leave my room. But the problem is that if you're too comfortable, you won't want to get any work done. If you dress in jeans and a nice sweater, you've already tricked your brain into starting with an upbeat attitude.
4. Make a list of everything you want to get done that day.
GiphyAnd for the rest of the week if you're feeling ambitious. Making a schedule for yourself will encourage you to stay on task and not fall prey to Netflix binge-watching instead of coursework.
5. Start assignments that aren't due for another week.
GiphyYou'll feel relieved later on knowing that you've taken a stab at the assignment, and climbing over that mountain won't tire you out so much later on. You have the free time you didn't expect to have, so use it!
6. Catch up on powerpoints and readings from your missed classes.
GiphyDo this immediately. Don't convince yourself that you'll take notes later on. Odds are that your professors expect you to go through the material yourself, and if you let the material pile, it'll only become more stressful later on when you realize that you no longer understand what's going on in class.
These are only a few things you should definitely consider doing when you have a snow day. Sleeping the day away and binge-watching Netflix is extremely tempting, I know. I've been there. But knowing that you're ahead on your classes will leave you feeling free later on, and then you'll get a chance to sleep all you want.
