The sudden change from not needing an alarm clock to wake up to setting 10 alarms to ensure you can make your 7:30 am class can be painful. Putting forth effort during the first few days of the semester can allow you to adjust to the new semester and start some new habits you needed last semester.
Here are 6 ways to adjust to a new semester.
1. Aim to get at least 7 hours of sleep
Waking up for class rested will make everything bearable.
2. Write a sleep schedule and attempt to stick to it.
Having a schedule is better than just saying you will go to bed by 10 every night. This is because some days you will wake up at different times than others. This helps to ensure you are getting at least 7 hours of sleep.
3. Set an alarm for everything.
Besides an alarm to wake up, you should have an alarm for when it is time to leave. This keeps you on track so you will know the latest possible time to leave before you are late for class.
4. Use a planner
Write down every book you need to get from the bookstore and every assignment you have. This can help you start the year off right. Nobody wants to forget something in the beginning of the semester.
5. Start assignments ASAP
I know this is easier said than done, but try to do big assignments everyday to eliminate the chance of an all- nighter packed with coffee and anxiety.
6. Get a study buddy
Having a friend or a group to study with can hold you accountable. You have someone to motivate you and keep you on task.
