Mequon, Wisconsin is a quaint little place - a place I never thought I would miss. Yet after going off to college, my heart sometimes yearns for random things that never used to even cross my mind.
1. Culver's.
Honestly, there is something about the Mequon Culver's that pulls on my heartstrings. Where I go to school in Indiana, there aren't many Culver's around, so I don't take my cheese curds for granted. I run into someone I know from home overtime I frequent this place, and sometimes, I just miss that.
2. Mequon-Thiensville Library.
Again, here's a public building that I never thought I would think that fondly of - don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic place. But every time I pass it when I'm at home, I think about all of the time I spent there as a child, and how excited I would be about programs that were put on there. Oh, and I can't forget my favorite thing, the library's reading competition, where children would keep track of how many books they have read. My yearning to read blossomed here, and I look back on what this place has done for me, and I really have never appreciated it.
3. Homestead High School.
No one wants to be the one that never closes the yearbook right? Well, I miss walking the halls of this "small" place (at least that's how it feels after going to college), and I miss seeing my high school teachers who put so much time and effort into their students' futures. I miss high school football games - themes, themes, themes, so much school spirit, am I right?
4. First Watch.
This is basically the best place of all time to have breakfast or lunch (I prefer breakfast however). It is such a vibrant and modern place, and whenever, I go there, my mood just lifts a tad. My stomach craves the avocado toast there, daily.
5. Piggly Wiggly.
The familiarity of a recognizable grocery store is very underrated. Every store I enter while I'm away at school surprises me. Like the cat food is next to the makeup section, um okay? I really took knowing where everything was in the Pig for granted, and I miss that much more than I would have ever thought.
6. The Lakefront.
Being landlocked (pretty much) in Indiana, sucks. There is no other word for it. I yearn for the water and for the view of Lake Michigan - a familiar sight that I didn't quite appreciate before I left.
Everyone gets a little lost sometimes, it happens. My advice: next time that happens, just take time to appreciated the unappreciated whether it's places from home or something completely unrelated.
